]]>During an interview with Zane Lowe, the Australian singer revealed that she nearly recorded a song with Prince in the early ‘90s.
In the interview, held ahead of the release of her forthcoming 15th album titled Disco, she described how whilst talking about her music and then imminent album, a collaboration was suggested.
“I’m more gutsy than I kind of make out sometimes even to myself. We hung out and he kind of put me on the spot a bit. He was like, ‘So where are your lyrics?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t…’ ‘Where do you want your mic set up?,” she said.
She continued: “I just like, wrote some lyrics. I didn’t even write songs then. I mean, I kind of wanted to, but I didn’t really, and I gave him some lyrics.”
According to Minogue, there’s a cassette of her and Prince’s collab—a song called “Baby Doll.” The song, however, was never recorded.

Disco drops November 6. Minogue has already shared the singles “I Love It” and “Magic” from the album.

]]>Prince’s estate joined forces with Tidal and Warner Bros. Records, to share this album with the world on June 7. According to the official press release, Originals will feature 14 previously unreleased recordings that illuminate the vital, behind-the-scenes role Prince played in other artists’ careers.
“By the mid-1980s, Prince was dominating the charts with songs that he had either recorded, produced for protégés, or passed along to other artists. The effect was a complete saturation and transformation of the pop music landscape, with Prince both leading and subverting mainstream culture,” tweeted representatives of Prince’s estate.
Originals will start streaming on Tidal on June 7, and its physical copy will be released by Warner Bros. Records two weeks later.

]]>The post Prince Memoir “The Beautiful Ones” Set for Release in Fall appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>“The Beautiful Ones is the deeply personal account of how Prince Rogers Nelson became the Prince we know: the real-time story of a kid absorbing the world around him and creating a persona, an artistic vision, and a life, before the hits and the fame that would come to define him,” said Random House in a press release.
The Beautiful Ones, which was announced just weeks before Prince’s death, will contain an introduction by New Yorker writer Dan Piepenbring. The 288-pages memoir spans from “Purple Rain” star’s early childhood across formative years to his rise to international stardom. According to literary agent Esther Newberg, Prince completed more than 50 handwritten pages of the book.
Chris Jackson, who serves as the book’s editor, called The Beautiful Ones “a beautiful tribute” to Prince’s life.
“It’s also much more than that: it’s a genuinely moving and energizing literary work, full of Prince’s ideas and vision, his voice, and image,” Jackson continued. “It’s a treasure not just for Prince fans but for anyone who wants to see one of our greatest creative artists and original minds at work on his greatest creation: himself.”

]]>The vinyl record is one of the most sought-after collectible pressings of all time. Approximately 500,000 copies were made by Warner Bros. in 1987, but they were ordered to be destroyed after Prince branded the record as “evil” and refused its release. The label did their best to destroy ever copy, but in the past 30 years three copies of the original pressing have surfaced.
“It is easily one of the rarest records in the world,” said Jeff Gold, a rarities expert.
Today, however, another copy of the rare album was found in Canada by a former employee of the Columbia Records Canadian pressing plant.
“In 1987, he was working at Columbia Records Canadian pressing plant in Canada,” explained Gold.
“When The Black Album was pulled and the copies had been made marked for destruction, he kept one copy for himself. He never realized its rarity or value until reading about the discovery of the U.S. copies in Rolling Stone and contacted me.”
With Gold’s help, the owner listed the unsealed, played record on Discogs yesterday for $27,500. The previous editions sold for over $10,000 more but were in mint condition.
