After a lot of anticipation, Taylor Swift finally dropped her album The Tortured Poets Department this Friday, but this wasn’t the only new release that caught our eye. Check out our list of the best new songs of the week to discover new music by Pearl Jam, Hozier, and Kings of Lion.

No album this week created more commotion than Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets and its companion piece The Anthology. She’s given us 16 new songs on the standard edition and 31 in total, but “So Long, London” is definitely her strongest new release.

This Friday was pretty slow for new releases because most artists wanted to avoid competing with Swift. That didn’t stop Pearl Jam from sharing their long-awaited album Dark Matter, which produced several amazing songs, including “Wreckage”.

The lack of major releases helped our favorite indie and international artists shine, and make it to our list of the best new songs of the week. Hozier’s “Why Would You Be Loved” is definitely worth listening to on repeat, and so are the latest singles by Rachel Chinouriri, Debbii Dawson, Kings of Leon, Kate Nash, and more.

Taylor Swift – “So Long, London”

Hozier – “Why Would You Be Loved”

Pearl Jam – “Wreckage”

Debbii Dawson – “Happy World”

Rachel Chinouriri – “It Is What It Is”

Sia – “Fame Won’t Love You” (feat. Paris Hilton)

Kings Of Leon – “Nothing To Do”

Cigarettes After S-x – “Dark Vacay”

Kate Nash – “Space Odyssey 2001”

Kygo, Zak Abel – “For Life” ft. Nile Rodgers

Our list of the best songs of the week always features some pretty amazing new tracks, but we dare to say this week’s choices might be better than ever! From Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” to Dua Lipa’s “Training Season”, we’re bringing you ten new tracks that you’ll be listening to on repeat for the months to come.

Beyoncé broke the internet shortly after this year’s Super Bowl by announcing the release of her next studio album Renaissance Act II. Her next LP will be country-themed, and the lead single “Texas Hold ‘Em” proves that this genre fits her like a glove.

Dua Lipa is also busy teasing the release of her next album, and she finally dropped her long-awaited new single “Training Season”. Vampire Weekend are gearing up for the release of their new LP Only God Was Above Us, and they gave us a taste of things to come with “Capricorn”.

Our list for this week doesn’t feature too many collaborations, but the ones that made the cut are as good as it gets. Mariah Carey hopped on the remix of Ariana Grande’s “Yes, And?”, while Karol G joined forces with Tiësto for the electrifying new song “Contigo”.

Check out our list in full and get ready to discover new songs by Caroline Polachek, Pearl Jam, IDLES, Kim Gordon, and Tierra Whack.

Pearl Jam recently announced their first album in four years, Dark Matter, and they found a perfect way to mark its release. The iconic Seattle rock band will embark on a tour around the world to celebrate the release of their new album, which includes dates in Europe, North America, and Australia.

Dark Matter will be released on April 19 via Monkeywrench Records and Republic Records, and the album announcement was accompanied by a full tracklist reveal. Pearl Jam prepared 11 brand-new songs this time around, including the title track “Dark Matter”, released as the album’s lead single.

Eddie Vedder, Jeff Ament, Mike McCreedy and Matt Cameron will promote the release of their new LP by kicking off a world tour on May 4 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. They’ll perform all over North America and Europe before wrapping up the tour with concerts in New Zealand and Australia in late November.

Andrew Watt produced Dark Matter, and guitarist Mike McCready revealed he pushed them to work on this album harder than ever.

“It’s a lot heavier than you’d expect. There’s the melody and energy of the first couple of records. Andrew pushed us to play as hard and melodic and thoughtful as we’ve done in a long time,” McCready told Classic Rock.

Grunge legends Pearl Jam will kick off their concert activities in 2023 with a short tour across the United States in August and September. While announcing the five-city trip, the band also revealed it is adopting the “all-in” ticket pricing model for all shows.

The tour will kick off with a pair of shows in St. Paul, Minnesota, on August 31 and September 2. The band will play two nights in Chicago, Fort Worth, and Austin as well, alongside one show in Indianapolis. Irish rockers Inhaler will serve as special guests in selected cities.

As part of the efforts to make the ticket sale process as transparent as possible, Pearl Jam teamed up with Live Nation to sell tickets with an “all-in” pricing model. This means that all the fees and added costs will be included in the ticket price that is displayed ahead of purchase. The model represents a departure from the practice of including additional costs of the ticket once the buyer proceeds to checkout. To avoid scalpers reselling the tickets at an inflatable price, the band will also make them non-transferable except for Chicago shows.

Pearl Jam will tour in support of their 2020 album Gigaton. The band confirmed they started with the work on the follow-up to Gigaton last year, but there haven’t been many details about the progress on the record since then.

Pearl Jam 2023 U.S. Tour Dates:

08-31 Saint Paul, MN – Xcel Energy Center

09-02 Saint Paul, MN – Xcel Energy Center

09-05 Chicago, IL – United Center

It’s been over two decades since Pearl Jam dropped their iconic album Yield and they found the perfect way to celebrate its legacy. The Seattle rockers will mark the 25th anniversary of their fifth studio album by releasing a special anniversary edition.

Pearl Jam is joining forces with Vinyl Me Please to release what’s been described as “pressed on 180g translucent red & black hi-melt vinyl.” It will be the first release from the company’s new audiophile-grade pressing plant and their CEO Cameron Schaefer can’t wait to join forces with one of the greatest rock bands of his lifetime.

“To get to play even a small part in honoring their legacy through the reissue of their fifth album Yield is an absolute highlight of my career. I’m hopeful our attention to detail and passion for the band carries through to the product and delights superfans and newcomers alike,” said Schaefer in a statement.

Yield was originally released on February 3, 1998, and it marked the return to the band’s early straightforward rock sound. It produced the hit singles “Given to Fly”, “Do the Evolution”, and “Wishlist”, and it has been certified platinum by the RIAA after selling 1.9 million copies in the United States.

Back in the early ’90s, grunge was the biggest thing in music. Bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam made a revolution and marked the entire decade while bringing the underground sound to the mainstream.

Unfortunately, it’s been a while since grunge music ruled the charts or event got significant attention, but that doesn’t mean people have forgotten about it. The likes of Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains are still keeping this genre relevant with critically acclaimed albums, while new generations are beginning to appreciate classical grunge records.

This is why we decided to present our picks for the top five essential grunge albums and remind you of their greatness, or introduce it to you if some of them did not previously catch your attention. The ranking was made by taking in consideration the albums commercial success, critical receptions, the way they stood the test of time and of course, our subjective opinion about them. So let’s get it started.

Soundgarden – Badmotorfinger

People often forget that Soundgarden was already seven years old and had two albums under their belt before the grunge craze started. With Badmotorfinger, however, the Chris Cornell-fronted group made their first breakthrough. Thanks to the band’s focus on songwriting, heavy sound, and the emergence of grunge, Badmotorfinger quickly became a huge hit and managed to sell a million copies in a year. It was also praised by the critics and even got Grammy considerations.

Standout songs: Outshined, Rusty Cage, Jesus Christ Pose

Temple Of The Dog – Temple Of The Dog

Temple Of The Dog is one of the unique projects in the whole of grunge. It was conceived as a tribute to Mother Love Bone’s late frontman Andrew Wood and consisted out of members of Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. The band released only one album in 1991, but that was enough to make them one of the grunge legends. The record wasn’t as commercially successful but ended up receiving praise from the critics and achieved cult status over the years.

Standout songs: Hunger Strike, Call me a Dog, Pushin Forward Back

Pearl Jam – Ten

Pearl Jam is one of the most recognizable rock bands in the world, which isn’t so surprising considering they had a monster debut record. Ten wasn’t an immediate success, as it saw slow sales following the release while critics were not crazy about it. Following the success of other grunge bands, however, the album gained traction, and it managed to crack the Top 10 on Billboard 200 a year after its initial release. The music fans and critics found a new appreciation for the record afterward and it is now considered one of the greatest albums ever.

Standout songs: Even Flow, Black, Jeremy

Alice in Chains – Dirt

Alice in Chains already found some success with their debut Facelift, but Dirt was the album that really established them as one of the grunge greats. The record featured a heavier sound than most of the other grunge album at the time but still dealt with dark and gritty themes like depression, pain, and anger. Dirt is now considered as a classic that influenced numerous acts afterward.

Standout songs: Would?, Angry Chair, Rooster

Nirvana – Nevermind

When talking about the best albums in grunge, people often intentionally fail to make Nevermind their top choice. This is mostly because it’s not cool enough to make the commercially most successful album also the best one. But we won’t make that mistake.

Nevermind is undoubtedly the greatest thing that grunge has given us. It was an album that summed up the voice of an entire generation and introduced a different way to make music. It has made grunge mainstream, which in return gave a chance to awesome bands that would never get a record deal otherwise.

Even if we disregard the impact that Nevermind had on not only grunge but music in general, we are still left with an album that is engaging and exciting to listen from start to the end. It was like that back in 1991, and things haven’t changed a bit today.

Standout songs: All of them

Pearl Jam will give their more inpatient fans an opportunity to listen to the band’s new album Giganton ahead of time. The grunge legends recently announced that they are organizing a special audio-visual listening experience of the new album two days before the official release date.

Gigaton Listening Experience will be a one-day experience, taking place on March 25th in more than 200 Dolby Atmos theaters across the world. It will feature a high-quality playback of Gigaton in full alongside visuals curated and created by filmmaker and artist Evolve.

The full list of participating theaters is available on the group’s official website, while you can check out the trailer for the event below.

Just about two months before the release of their new album, Gigaton, Pearl Jam released the first single from the album – “Dance of the Clairvoyants.” The new album will be the band’s first studio album in 7 years since 2013’s Lightning Bolt.

Bassist Jeff Ament wrote about the new songs on the band’s Twitter account. “‘Dance’ was a perfect storm of experimentation and real collaboration… We’ve opened some new doors creatively and that’s exciting.”

“Making this record was a long journey,” guitarist Mike McCready said in a statement about Gigaton. “It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness, and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times.”

Just before the new album’s release, on March 18th, the band will embark on a 16-date North American tour. The first show will be in Toronto and the tour will end on April 19th in Oakland, California. Then the band will cross the ocean for the European leg of the tour, beginning June 23rd in Frankfurt Germany.

Pearl Jam really kept us waiting for their new album, but the wait is finally over! Their next record called Gigaton is coming our way in March and they’ll support it with a concert tour across North America.

The band’s lead guitarist Mike McCready described the process of making this record as “a long journey” – but also one that brought him and the rest of Pearl Jam closer together.

“It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness, and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times,” said McCready in a press release.

Pearl Jam’s last studio album Lightning Bolt came out in 2013 and earned the band their fifth no. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This was the longest break they ever took between two studio records, and they were touring in the meantime. They’re expected to hit the road again on March 18th, when their North American tour kicks off in Toronto.

Pearl Jam will tour in support of their 2020 album Gigaton. The band confirmed they started with the work on the follow-up to Gigaton last year, but there haven’t been many details about the progress on the record since then.
