]]>Paul Simon announced that he will perform two benefit shows in Maui, Hawaii, his first performances since 1968. Last time he performed on the island was with his legendary partner Art Garfunkel when they played at Honolulu’s HIC Arena on August 68.
The back-to-back concerts will take place August 13th and 14th just two days after the singer-songwriter headlines San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival — his first concert since he ended his farewell tour last September.
According to Rolling Stone, the Maui concerts are in support of biodiversity conservation. Net proceeds will be donated to The Auwahi Forest Restoration Project and Kua‘āina Ulu ‘Auamo (KUA).
This falls well in line with the retired musician’s pledge to an “ongoing commitment to perform the occasional concert and to donate those earnings to philanthropic organizations, particularly those dedicated to environmental welfare and to preserving species biodiversity.”

]]>All 11 songs will get reworked by artists like Paul Oakenfold, Photek and Groove Armada, with the track “Homeless” getting two versions. Joris Voorn and Richy Ahmed will also take part in the project approved by Paul Simon.
“What do you say when someone asks you to remix a classic? Well normally, No!” said Groove Armada’s Andy Cato in a statement.
“It’s a rule we’ve managed to follow for 20 years. Until we got a call about remixing a track from Graceland. Here was an album…which had opened our ears to a new world of sound. We decided to break the rule because we could choose a tune. In [‘You Can Call Me Al’] was a horn riff that we’d been dropping in our sets ever since we tried it at Fais Do-Do’s Ballroom in LA back in 1998 and it created an electric moment of dance floor unity. So the remix wrote itself and our ace-in-the-pack Horn Drop is now public property.”
