According to Latin AMAs’ official statement, this special award is meant to reflect change, growth, and speed in a career of a young artist who achieved accelerated success over a short period of time, and Ozuna perfectly fits this description.

The “Caramelo” singer won six Latin AMAs over the years, starting with the best new artist of the year in 2017. He’s also a recipient of two Latin Grammy Awards, twelve Billboard Latin Music Awards, and many other prestigious honors.

Ozuna will pick up his Extraordinary Evolution Award at this year’s Latin AMAs, taking place on April 15th. J Balvin and Karol G  topped the list of nominees with a total of nine nominations each, but Ozuna is among the top contenders with seven nods, including the artist of the year.

Ozuna recently reflected on his decade in an interview with Rolling Stone, and named Daddy Yankee’s record Mundial as his favorite album of the 2010s. He also praised him for taking his music to another level by constantly collaborating with rising reggaeton stars.

Shawn Mendes was in charge of writing her tribute and had nothing but words of praise for Swift.

“Taylor makes the job of creating music for millions of people look easy. It all comes from her –her belief in magic and love, and her ability to be as honest and raw as possible,” wrote Mendes.

Swift wasn’t the only musician named as an icon by Time. This section also featured Lady Gaga, who was praised for marching to the beat of her own drum by the fellow pop star Celine Dion. Ariana Grande, Khalid, Ozuna, and BTS were also among the artist who made the cut.
