]]>First time I saw them live was in 2014, when they performed in full capacity with two singers while the second time was in 2017 when they performed their DJ set. Both times they were a great experience and got me dancing all night. This time, however, things were different.
They were performing with their DJ set once again, but it just didn’t sound fresh like the first time. They were a bit less energetic and bit more boring. It seemed like they just came to do what they got paid to do and take off to another place and another gig. It just didn’t feel all that special or worth to be counted as being at a satisfying gig. And it wasn’t just me; the rest of the crowd seemed a bit bored as well.
However, it wasn’t all bad. Occasionally, guys from Rudimental would take it up a notch with some hit song that would wake up the audience and got them going. This especially goes for the very end of the set, when they started to show flashes of their musical brilliance. Frankly, it was maybe too little, too late.
Maybe it was just a night off for them or something similar, but Rudimental did not deliver this time like they are known to do. But, I’ll probably encounter them soon enough, and be able to tell you whether this was an exception or not.

]]>We didn’t know what to expect from this British hip-hop/electro collective since gigs of bands that are feeding off their old success can go either way. Luckily, this gig leaned more towards being an enjoyable experience than the other way around.
One thing we have to give to Stereo MCs is their professionalism and their relation towards the audience. They behaved themselves on stage, said the right words, while frontman Rob Birch tried to build a bond with the audience by repeating some cliché phrases.
When it comes to music, it was evident that Stereo MCs are a well-rehearsed and oiled machine that rarely takes a wrong step. This was recognized by the audience, who enjoyed themselves during the gig although most of them weren’t familiar with the band’s entire repertoire. Frankly, it wasn’t hard to enjoy, since the rhythm of their songs is catchy and works well with the festival surrounding.
As expected, the setlist was dominated by the songs from their most fruitful period, the ’90s, with occasional tracks from the newer period.
The final verdict is that Stereo MCs are worthy of going to see live. It will not be an unforgettable experience, but they are not an unforgettable band. They are there to make you dance for an hour and a half, which can’t be a bad thing. If you happen to find yourself at one of their gigs, you won’t regret it, that’s for sure.
