]]>The band already played “The General” live last month during their two-night show at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl. However, this is the first time we get to hear the song’s studio version. It is a slow burner done Guns N’ Roses style, with frontman Axl Rose’s letting its screaming voice be the main star while guitarist Slash provides effective, hard-hitting riffs.
The song isn’t exactly brand new, being part of the recording sessions for 2008’s studio album Chinese Democracy. Its existence was hinted at throughout the years by band members themselves as well as collaborators on the record. According to the stories, it was conceived as a follow-up to Use Your Illusion II track “Estranged.”
“The General” will also get its release on vinyl, being paired up with “Perhaps,” which is another Chinese Democracy leftover that never saw the light of the day. The 7” vinyl is already available through the band’s official website but comes in limited quantity.
Guns N’ Roses confirmed that they are working on a new album back in 2022. However, there haven’t been many details about the project since then. The band’s most recent release was the extended play Hard Skool, which contained reworked versions of two older songs: “Hard Skool” and “Absurd”- and live versions of “Don’t Cry” and “You’re Crazy”.

“Guns N’ Roses is bringing their outrageously successful Not in This Lifetime Tour back to the U.S this fall – and for the first time in 2019,” said the band in a statement. “With fans hungry for more GNR, today the band revealed eight new dates across the United States, kicking off Sept. 25 in Charlotte, N.C.”
Following the end of this U.S. leg of the tour, Guns N’ Roses are expected to head to the studio and work on their new studio album. This was confirmed by the group’s lead guitarist Slash in a recent interview.
“When we finish the tour in the fall then we will commit to working on the next Guns record,” Slash told 101 WRIF’s DJ Meltdown in early June.

]]>“Axl [Rose], Duff [McKagan], myself and [guitarist] Richard [Fortus] have all talked about… there’s material and stuff going on already for a new record,” – said Slash. “It’s just, with Guns N’ Roses, you don’t go, ‘Oh, there is a plan, and it’s gonna be like this,’ because that’s not how it works. So, basically, the only real answer to give is we’re hoping to put a new record out, and we’ll just see what happens when it happens.”
The 53-year-old guitarist also reflected on the reunion of Guns N’ Roses’ classic lineup after 20 years and their recent massively successful worldwide tour.
“The band was great, the f***ing entourage, the crew, the whole production was just like this really great marriage of people, and we just all had a really good time,” – he added. “And the fans were amazing. So I’m really happy that it happened.”
Guns N’ Roses’ last record was 2016’s Chinese Democracy, but the record didn’t feature any of the founding members besides vocalist Axl Rose. The most recent album that featured original songs from the band’s classic lineup was 1991’s Use Your Illusion II.
