Until My Chemical Romance is able to resume their comeback tour, the group’s frontman Gerard Way decided to focus on his solo career. Way recently shared four new solo tracks, making them available on his SoundCloud profile.

The tracks — “Phoning It In,” “Crate Amp,” “Success!” and “Welcome to the Hotel” — sound a bit rough and seem to be a “work in progress.” Hear them below.

According to Way’s Instagram post, he was going through unreleased material while in isolation and figured he could give fans something to listen to. Some of the tracks were intended to be released as singles, but that won’t be the case now.

“I’m calling all of this stuff Distraction Or Despair since that seems to be the two things I keep shifting between. Probably a lot of other people too,” he wrote on social media. “But I think only some of the tracks are tied to an “album” of that name. I’m just winging it, keeping it casual. May add some notes to the tracks.”

After a six-year-long hiatus, Gerard Way decided to reunite with his My Chemical Romance bandmates in October 2019 for a one-off show in Los Angeles. Following a positive reaction from the fans, the group decided to embark on a worldwide tour in 2020. The tour was scheduled to kick off in Australia on March 20th, but the shows were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Marking the start of a new decade, 2020 is set to be an exciting year for music. In addition to seeing a steady influx of new artists arriving on the scene, some old favorites are set to reunite. Here are the reunions we are most looking forward to.

My Chemical Romance

After a seven-year hiatus, My Chemical Romance (MCR) are reuniting for select tour dates in 2020. MCR was a staple part of the emo culture in the 2010s. If you are in your mid-twenties and used to rock a sweeping fringe with heavy black eyeliner, you’re probably already putting aside money for tickets.

Rage Against The Machine

After nine-years of, iconic nu-metal band Rage Against The Machine are reforming for three major concert dates, including a headlining slot at Coachella. Expect political lyrics, wicked riffs and major rage.

The Pussycat Dolls

After the success of the Spice Girls reunion, it’s no surprise that noughties pop band The Pussycat Dolls are reforming for a 2020 tour. They are returning after a decade off and may even be releasing new music as well as reviving old classics.

It appears that Coachella 2020 will be all about reunions and comeback concerts. According to Consequence of Sound, legendary rockers Rage Against the Machine and emo icons My Chemical Romance will be among the headliners for this year’s edition of the festival.

RATM themselves already confirmed the appearance back in November, when they shared a list of dates for their reunion tour. The band previously played the festival back in 2007.

My Chemical Romance recently kicked off their reunion tour as well. After triumphant shows in Los Angeles, the band has scheduled dates in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia before they arrive at Coachella. If true, this would be their first appearance at the festival.

Consequence of Sound cites “industry sources,” who revealed more of the line-up, which will officially be revealed sometime this month. RATM and My Chemical Romance should be joined by Frank Ocean and Travis Scott on the headline bill, while Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Lana Del Rey, and Australian EDM star Flume are also set to make appearances.

Coachella 2020 is set to take place at Empire Polo Club in Indio, Californa on April 10th-12th and April 17th-19th. Tickets will go on sale in early January.

After waiting seven years for My Chemical Romance to return to the stage, the band performed their greatest hits from their past four albums last Friday.

The band’s return couldn’t have come at a better time as many popular singers today such as Halsey, Yungblud, and the late Lil Peep, have talked about the influence My Chemical Romance has had on their music.

Throughout the hour and 45-minute show, the fans went crazy over singer Gerard Way, bassist Mikey Way, and guitarists Frank Iero and Ray Toro. The band opened with chart-topper “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” and Way said to the crowd, “We didn’t know if this show was ever gonna happen, so thanks for showing up.”

During the first half of the show, the band played “Make Room!!!” and “You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison” with Youth Code’s Sara Taylor as a guest vocalist. Other songs performed were “Teenagers,” “Mama,” “Famous Last Words,” “Helena,” and “Vampire Money.”

Fittingly, the band ended the night with one of their most successful songs, “Welcome to the Black Parade.” Prior to performing the song Way said to the crowd, “We have one more song for you… maybe it’s the one you want to hear.”

The show was dedicated to the band’s former manager Lauren Valencia who sadly passed away from cancer back in July.

My Chemical Romance surprised their fans with the best possible Christmas present this year – a special reunion show. We’re learning more about this exciting concert as the time goes by, and we finally know which band will support them during this highly-anticipated show.

The New Jersey based-band Thursday will support MCR during their sold-out show in Los Angeles, shortly after wrapping up their own 20th-anniversary tour.

“One thing that we never could have planned for was the reunion of our closest friends, My Chemical Romance. It was a sincere but welcomed shock when they told us their plans and asked if we wouldn’t join them,” said members of Thursday in a statement.

My Chemical Romance will reunite on December 20th at the Shrine Auditorium, in Los Angeles. Tickets for this show sold out in a matter of minutes, but members of the beloved emo band once again surprised their fans by announcing they’re planning additional three concerts, taking place next year in Australia, Japan, and New Zealand.

All hell broke loose on Halloween after the iconic emo band finally confirmed they’re coming back together. Members of MCR parted ways back in 2013, but rumors about a potential reunion have been circling around for some time.

My Chemical Romance finally gave their fans what they were hoping for and announced a reunion show that’s going to take place on December 20th at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles. The tickets went on sale on November 1st, and they were sold out almost immediately.

Members of MCR were overwhelmed by the positive reactions they received from fans and thanked them for their support in an official statement on Instagram.

“It is truly unbelievable to us the happiness we have experienced over the past two days. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the warm welcome back. We truly did not expect this. See you soon.”

Former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has had a busy few years. In addition to putting out new sequels of his “The Umbrella Academy” comics, Way has been a part of Netflix transforming his comics into an acclaimed TV series.

Although the comics may seem like a sidestep away from Way’s music career, the My Chemical Romance star has revealed that music, in fact, played a very important part in his creation of the comics.

Speaking with NME, he explained that the music he was obsessively listening to during the writing process had shaped the “feel” of the comics.

“When I wrote the first book, I was listening obsessively to Teenage Fanclub, the Pixies and Smashing Pumpkins, and I think the influence of those records – and the feel of those records – are in the comics,” he explained. “With the TV show, I didn’t have a lot of input – Steve came to it with a pretty clear idea of the music he wanted to use. When he writes scripts, he includes songs as he goes, a bit like [Guardians Of The Galaxy director] James Gunn does.”

He continued: “Moving forward though, if we get a second season, I’ve said to Steve that I’d really like to get involved more there. I’m of the mind that when you have a big captive audience, you can introduce them to more left-of-center stuff. I’d always pick a song by a band like Wire or Gang Of Four over the sort of stuff Steve does, although I think he’s incredible at using songs you’ve heard before in really interesting ways.”

The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for a second season but no release date has yet been confirmed.

My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way has revealed that some of the characters in The Umbrella Academy were inspired by members of My Chemical Romance.

If you are a My Chemical Romance fan then by now you have probably read, watched or at least seen a trailer for Gerard Way’s comic The Umbrella Academy, which has now been adapted by Netflix into a series. The series is not your typical superhero story and deals with pressing family issues, particularly when it comes to dysfunction.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gerard Way reveals that his experience being in My Chemical Romance helped shape the comics and its characters.

“Being in a band is like being in a dysfunctional family and all these personalities are really distinct and really big, not just the people in your band, but the people you meet on the road or the crew that you work with and all this stuff,” he explained.

“A band especially is a dysfunctional family, so there’s little bits of me in all the characters, there’s bits of some of the guys in some of those characters and the different roles that we would play in the band and how those roles would change sometimes.”

He added: “We were in a big pressure cooker of fame and notoriety and the characters experience that in the comic and the show.”

You can watch The Umbrella Academy on Netflix now.
