Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” is shaping up to be one of the defining songs of 2025, and Lucy Dacus loves it as much as the rest of us. She delivered a hunting, stripped-down cover of this smash hit during an appearance on BBC Radio 1, and her version quickly recieved Gaga’s seal of approval.

The Boygenuis singer put her twist on “Abracadabra” during BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge session. She delivered an ethereal, atmospheric, and soaring cover of the song alongside a pianist and acoustic guitarist, striping it down to its essence.

Gaga was impressed by Dacus’ stripped-down rendition and commented on it by writing, “I LOVE this so much wow captures the purity of the song.” “Abracadabra” was released as the second single from her latest album Mayhem, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart and also produced hit singles “Die with a Smile” ft. Bruno Mars and “Disease”.

As for Lucy Dacus, her BBC Radio 1 performance was part of the promo for her latest solo album Forever Is a Feeling. Her major label debut as a solo artist was released on March 28 to rave reviews, and it produced songs “Ankles”, “Limerence”,  “Best Guess”, “Talk”, and “Bullseye” ft. Hozier.

Boygenius made quite a splash with their debut album The Record earlier this year, and there’s more where that came from! The indie-rock supergroup is welcoming fall with a new EP The Rest, set to feature four brand-new songs.

Boygenius was founded by Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus and they’ve been making music for five years before finally deciding to release their first album together. Their debut LP The Record hit the shelves back in March, and its spiritual successor is just around the corner.

The poetic cover for this EP was shot by Matt Grub, and it shows Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus standing on the beach at sunset, while the wind blows through their hair.

The Rest will be released by Interscope on October 12, and it will feature four new songs, including “Black Hole”. It’s their third EP together following Boygenius and Boygenius (Demos), and it’s available to pre-order on limited edition yellow 10 vinyl and CD.

Boygenius made quite a splash with The Record earlier this year, which became the first no. 1 album in the UK for all of its members, in addition to debuting at No. 4 in the US. Just last week, they also released the animated music video for the song “Cool About It” directed by Lauren Tsai.
