Madonna is one of this year’s most significant inductees since she made the cut with her seminal 1984 album Like A Virgin. The list of iconic albums on this year’s list also includes Latifah’s debut effort All Hail the Queen, Synchronicity by The Police, and Déjà Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

This year’s list of inductees covered many different genres, starting with rock and country classics. John Lennon’s peace anthem “Imagine” and Led Zeppelin’s power ballad “Stairway To Heaven” made the cut, along with John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads”.

Several 80s disco hits also made the cut, including, Irene Cara’s “Flashdance…What a Feeling” (1983) and Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” (1983).

The list of this year’s honorees also includes Mariah Carey’s holiday anthem “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, Daddy Yankee’s reggaeton smash hit “Gasolina”, and Super Mario Bros. theme song.

The National Recording Registry was founded in 2000, and over 600 recordings have been preserved in the registry ever since, with 25 new recordings being selected each year since 2006.

Led Zeppelin’s last live gig was in 2007 at The O2 arena in London, with Page, vocalist Robert Plant, and bassist John Paul Jones getting together and playing a 16-song setlist. Son of the late John Bonham, Jason Bonham, replaced him as the drummer.

At the time, it was reported that the group will embark on a tour, and Page confirmed this in a recent interview with BBC Radio 2. According to the guitarist, they considered doing more shows but “it didn’t come off.”

When asked whether Led Zeppelin might get to it at some point in the future, Page gave a disappointing answer.

“It seems really unlikely that there would be a tour in the future,” he said. “Unlike The Rolling Stones, they do sort of know that the fans love that—also I know that with Led Zeppelin [fans too]. But it doesn’t look as though there’s anything in the future, unfortunately.”

Despite not playing together, Led Zeppelin members recently got together in 2018 to commemorate the band’s 50th anniversary. As part of the celebration, the group released an illustrated book and reissued a triple live album How the West Was Won on vinyl.

The former Led Zeppelin bassist is largely hailed as one of the greatest bassists of our time. Now, the star is making his live return with his new band, Sons of Chipotle.

John Paul Jones has played in a couple of bands over the last decade, including Dave Grohl’s project, Them Crooked Vultures. Sons of Chipotle will see Jones playing electronics and piano alongside Anssi Karttunen.

The description on John Paul Jones’ official website reads: “It is incredibly rare to find two of the finest musicians in the world performing in such an intimate setting for what will be a series of remarkable concerts. Both musicians are known to be curious minds, always ready to learn and to discover.

“When they improvise, borders disappear, they are free to migrate beyond prejudices, across continents. In a world where walls are being built and people are told where they cannot go, Sons of Chipotle want music to be a place of openness.”

The description adds: “There will be two performances per day at The Pit Inn featuring John Paul Jones on piano and electronics, with Anssi Karttunen on cello and electronics.”

Sons Of Chipotle will perform at the Pit Inn in Shinjuku, Japan on September 3 and 5.

The documentary, directed by Bernard MacMahon (American Epic), will mark the band’s 50^th anniversary and will cover the band’s early years, chronicling the period from their formation in 1968 to their chart-topping second studio album Led Zeppelin II.

The feature will be the first documentary to get an official blessing from the band and will include brand new interviews with guitarist Jimmy Page, vocalist Robert Plant, and bassist John Paul Jones, as well as archival interviews with the Led Zeppelin’s late drummer John Bonham.

The press release also promises to feature never-before-seen footage and to be “the definitive telling of the birth of the world’s biggest selling rock band.”

The documentary is currently in postproduction and will be offered to distributors at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

“When I saw everything Bernard had done both visually and sonically on the remarkable achievement that is American Epic, I knew he would be qualified to tell our story,” Page said in a statement.

“Seeing Will Shade, and so many other important early American musicians, brought to life on the big screen in American Epic, inspired me to contribute to a very interesting and exciting story,” added Plant.

This movie was filled with a series of timeless classics thanks to its signature Awesome Mix, and they all deserve the top spot, but this one is our personal favorite.

The Led Zeppelin guitarist explained that following his time with the Yardbirds, he wanted a guitar he could really make his own.

“I tried applying mirrors to it so you could use it in an optical way,” he recalls. “It was this whole thing of the reflective surfaces, and you could actually reflect the light onto other things; to make it sort of almost kinetic at the same time…”

Originally received as an undecorated gift from Jeff Beck, he used this 1959 Telecaster to unleash his larger-than-life riffage and fierce soloing upon the world.”

After picking up an acoustic guitar, she couldn’t remember which riff she learned first out of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Jethro Tull’s “Aqualung,” so she played them both. St. Vincent was then asked about some of the underappreciated riffs people should learn, opting to play The Breeders’ “Cannonball.”

For the part about riffs that make her want to pick up a guitar, she went with the classics: Jimi Hendrix’ “Manic Depression” and Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog.” Finally, St. Vincent also revealed she was a metalhead, since she played Pantera’s “Cowboys From Hell” when it came to riffs she wishes she has written.

When she is not sharing the riffs that changed her life, St. Vincent is playing her own stuff on her ongoing tour in support of her latest album Masseduction. Released in 2017, the album debuted at number 10 on the US Billboard 200, being her first top ten entry in the U.S. The album also met with critical acclaim, being considered one of the best records of 2017.
