]]>In the runup to their latest album, Black Anima, frontwoman Cristiana Scabbia has explained exactly what it is she wants to give fans. She emphasizes that the Lacuna Coil experience offers something deeper than “little fixes of entertainment.”
“Well we’re trying to do things in a quite old-fashioned way,” Scabbia told NME. “We’re trying to write records, not songs. On the new record, there’s an intro and an outro, and you should try to enjoy the record in its entirety. We’re trying to get an hour from people to lay down on their bed, close their eyes and come on a journey with us. That’s the goal.”
She went onto explain why she chose to include the visual element of tarot cards with the record.
“We like to try to add a visual element to our records too,” she explained. “This time we’ve made tarot cards with the record, which I think suits it because it’s a very – how do you say? – esoteric record, in a spiritual way. There’s a card for each song, designed by the artist Micah Ulrich. I don’t really believe that tarot can tell the future, but I do think they’re a good visual to show where you’re at in your life.”
Black Anima is available for streaming now.

]]>“We’ve always tried to have a record that makes sense when we release it. If it’s 2019, it has to be a record that makes sense in 2019,” Ferro told DaBelly Magazine. “Obviously, we do have our style that we bring for 20 years, so you will recognize the style of the band no matter what direction we go.”
Lacuna Coil is a true veteran of the craft, having started out back in 1994, albeit under different names. Over the years the band’s sound has changed somewhat to lean less on guitar melodies and to feature more prominent bass lines.
“It’s important for us to keep a certain freshness in the production, the sounds we’re choosing, the arrangement we choose,” Ferro explained. “That makes it interesting for us, as well as for the fans. We have to play these songs for a long time, so it’s important that we’re still excited about playing them.”
As for the overall experience, Ferro is convinced fans would find the album a diverse and satisfying listen: “We have some songs that are really heavy, some others that are more catchy and some others which are more introspective and trippy. It’s probably the most complete record we’ve done.”

]]>The band’s ninth studio album will hit the shelves on October 11th, and co-vocalist Cristina Scabbia promised it will explore “human beings in the magnificence of a disturbing ambiguity”.
“Black Anima is all of us. It’s you and it’s me, it’s everything we hide and fiercely expose to a world that’s halfway asleep. It is the fogged mirror we are peering into searching for the truth. It’s sacrifice and pain, it’s justice and fear, it’s fury and revenge, it’s past and future,” said Scabbia in a statement.
Black Anima will serve as the follow-up to their critically acclaimed album Delirium from 2016. Lacuna Coil went through several important changes in the line-up before this album came out since several members retired from the band before it was recorded.

“I am in LOVE with new stuff and from my black bubble of enjoyment I feel immensely grateful for your constant support: it is because of you all that we are able to do what we love the most on a professional level and I NEVER take all this for granted,” wrote Scabbia.
Latest Lacuna Coil album Delirium came out in 2016 and represented a big shift for the band since several group members retired before it was recorded. It was still a big success story for everyone involved since it received critical acclaim and made it to top 10 on Billboard’s rock and hard rock charts.
