July is shaping up to be a great month for music, and our favorite artists kept giving us amazing new tracks this week. Childish Gambino, Jorja Smith, and Amaarae are leading our list of the best new songs of the week, along with Khalid, Alessia Cara, and Paris Paloma.

This Friday marked the release of Childish Gambino’s soundtrack album Bando Stone & the New World, and she found a perfect way to promote it. “In the Night” was released as its second single, and the Grammy-winning rapper found the best partners in crime in Jorja Smith and Amaarae.

This is only one of two collaborations to make the cut this week, and we were equally impressed by James Bay’s “Up All Night” featuring The Lumineers and Noah Kahan.

Some of our favorite indie bands also returned with new albums this week. Glass Animals unleashed I Love You So F***ing Much and gave us ten brand-new songs, including “Show Pony”. Highly Suspect dropped As Above, So Below, and “Plastic Boxes” emerged as one of their best new songs.

It’s been a good week for alternative music overall, with Wallows and Paris Paloma also making the cut, but we made sure to also put new songs by Benson Boone, Jade, Khalid, and Alessia Cara in the mix.

There was always something truly emotional and moving about James Bay’s music, and he’s back to breaking our hearts with the music video for his latest song, “Bad”.

This video kicks off with an image of Bay delivering his latest tune on an acoustic guitar, but we quickly learn there’s more to it than meets the eye. The British singer is actually sitting on a floating chair while playing his song, and we follow him as he flies all around New York.

“Bad” is one of the songs from Bay’s latest EP Oh My Messy Mind, which came out on May 10th, and it perfectly captured the pain that comes with loss, longing, and unrequited love.

“With ‘Bad’ and the other songs on the EP, I wanted to be honest about some of my own stories and other stories I was being pulled into. I regularly write things down in a stream of consciousness to empty my head,” said Bay in a press release.

James Bay and Julia Michaels just proved music videos don’t have to have an elaborate plot-line to be incredibly moving. The video for their single “Peer Pressure” is as emotional as they get, and we wouldn’t judge you if you were sobbing all the way through.

This three-minute long clip shows the pair sitting by each other’s side in an empty nightclub and delivering their soulful pop ballade, which will tug at your heartstrings. There’s not much more to it, but the slow-motion camera that’s circling around them certainly gives this video an incredibly intimate feel.

Julia Michaels described the process of writing this song as “a great collaborative experience”, because it came from a place they can both relate to. James Bay echoed her statement while explaining the meaning behind their emotional duet.

“In writing ‘Peer Pressure’ Julia and I wanted to talk about how, when the right person comes along, they can break through any armor and with love, get straight to you. It’s about that person who, no matter how much of a guard you hold up, finds their way through to you,” said English hit-maker.

Ed Sheeran is embarking on the last leg of his Divide Tour in May, and it seems he’ll have a great company. Zara Larsson will be supporting him during a series of shows, taking place all across Europe.

Sheeran will kick-off his latest European tour with a concert in Lyon on May 24. He’ll stay on the road all the way until August 26 and concluded his tour with a series of shows at the Chantry Park in Ipswich.

Larsson won’t be the only artist serving as opening act for Sheeran in Europe in the upcoming few months. British musician James Bay and rock band The Darkness will be there to support him as well.

2019 is shaping up to be a pretty busy year for Zara Larsson, who recently dropped new song “Ruin My Life”. It will serve as lead single for her upcoming third album, and the Swedish singer stressed how important it was for her to do this on her own.

“I thought to myself, I just wanted to release a song, just me. I want people to know who I am. A lot of the times, people have heard my song, any of the singles, but not necessarily know who I am. I wanted to put my face out there,” explained Larsson.

Childish Gambino – “In the Night” ft. Jorja Smith & Amaarae

Glass Animals – “Show Pony”

Benson Boone – “Death Wish Love”

Jade – “Angel of My Dreams”

Khalid – “Ground”

Paris Paloma – “The Warmth”

James Bay – “Up All Night” (with The Lumineers & Noah Kahan)

Alessia Cara – “Dead Man”

Wallows – “Bad Remake”

Highly Suspect – “Plastic Boxes”
