]]>“What Was I Made For?” was one of the tracks in the running for the best original song at this year’s Golden Globes. It was a clear front-runner from the very start, and easily defeated tough competition in the fellow Barbie tracks “Dance the Night” and “I’m Just Ken”, plus Lenny Kravitz’s “Road to Freedom” from Rustin, Bruce Springsteen’s “Addicted to Romance” from She Came to Me, and “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, performed by Jack Black.
To make the whole thing even more impressive, this isn’t the first Golden Globe that the sister-brother duo Eilish and O’Connell won by each other’s side. Just two years ago, they dominated this category with the James Bond theme song “No Time to Die”.
“What Was I Made For?” is currently in the running for five Grammy Awards, including record and song of the year. It also made it to the shortlist for the best original song at the upcoming Academy Awards.

]]>The list of contenders for the best original song at the Golden Globes will include Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night”, Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”, and “I’m Just Ken”, performed by Ryan Gosling. Seeing Barbie dominate this category is not a shocker, after all three tracks also received Grammy nominations for best song written for visual media, along with “Barbie World” by Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj.
Barbie songs took over half of the best original song field at the Golden Globe, while the list of the remaining nominees includes Bruce Springsteen’s “Addicted to Romance” from She Came To Me, Jack Black’s “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Lenny Kravitz’s “Road to Freedom” from Rustin.
Taylor Swift will also be among the contenders at this year’s Golden Globes, after her concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour received a nod for the newly introduced cinematic and box office achievement award.
The 2024 Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 7, 2024, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

]]>Eilish shared the honor with her brother and creative partner Finneas O’Connell, who co-wrote this tune by her side. “No Time to Die” served as the theme song for the James Bond film of the same name, and it was originally released in February 2020.
Eilish had to beat some tough competition to collect this accolade. She was competing against Beyoncé with “Be Alive”, from King Richard and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Dos Oruguitas” from Encanto. Van Morrison’s “Down to Joy” from Belfast and “Here I Am” by Jamie Hartman, Jennifer Hudson, and Carole King from Respect were also in the running.
Golden Globe isn’t the first award that Eilish managed to win with “No Time to Die”. This song previously collected the award for best song written for visual media at this year’s Grammys. It’s currently in the running for several more accolades, and it’s considered as one of the front-runners for the Academy Award for best original song.

]]>Beyoncé is in the running alongside Dixson for her work on the song “Be Alive” from King Richard. She’s no stranger to the Golden Globes and has several nominations under her belt, both as an actress and a performer—most recently, for the song “Spirit” from The Lion King.
Eilish received her nod alongside her brother and creative collaborator Finneas O’Connell for their work on the theme song from No Time to Die. The list of contenders also includes “Dos Oruguitas” by Lin-Manuel Miranda from Encanto, “Down to Joy” by Van Morrison from Belfast, and “Here I Am” by Carole King, Jennifer Hudson, and Jamie Hartman from Respect.
One person who’s noticeably missing from the list of nominees? Ariana Grande. She received some major Oscar buzz for her Kid Cudi collaboration “Just Look Up” from Don’t Look Up, but her chances are significantly lower after she was snubbed by the Globes.
The Golden Globe nominations were announced by Snoop Dog on Monday morning, while the winners will be declared on January 9th, 2022.

]]>When they took the stage to accept the award, John said this win is extremely important to them because it’s the first they’ve ever received together, and Taupin echoed his statement.
“This is really sweet because this is not just about a song we wrote for a movie. It’s about a song we wrote for a movie that deals with our relationship. And it’s a relationship that doesn’t happen very often in this town: It’s a 52-year-old marriage,” said Elton John’s long-time songwriting partner.
What makes their victory even more impressive is that they had to beat pretty tough competition to score this win. The list of nominees also included Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber who co-wrote Cats tune “Beautiful Ghosts”, and The Lion King track “Spirit” written by Beyoncé, Ilya, and Labrinth.

]]>This slow-burning power ballad was a favorite from the very start, but Gaga was still surprised after learning she’s the winner. Mother Monster accepted her Golden Globe alongside Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt.
Ronson was mostly in charge of delivering their acceptance speech, and thanked Bradley Cooper for taking this heartfelt tune and giving it emotional resonance. He also thanked Lady Gaga and called her the captain of the S.S. Shallow.
“The genius comes from you. It’s up there. You’re the one who let us into the deep waters and truly made the song what it is with your devastatingly beautiful performance as an actor and a singer,” said Ronson.
Gaga thanked her co-writers for lifting her up and supporting her throughout this process, and gave a shout-out to Bradley Cooper while speaking backstage shortly after receiving the award.
“He was incredible as a director and I loved working with him, he made me a better actress. But what we are really excited to be on this stage for is how much he believed in this song as a vehicle for story telling in this film,” said Lady Gaga.
