Garbage’s last album, Strange Little Birds, was released in 2016 and now, three years later, the fans are waiting for some new material from the alternative rock band. As reported by PopCulture.com, frontwoman Shirley Manson is settings their minds in peace – it is getting closer.

The singer said that the band has a record set for next year and that they are “shooting for a 2020 release”. She also said that they will “definitely 100% not put out new music this year”.

Manson said that the band did some writing and even a little recording before going on their summer tour. “That’s the plan anyway. You just never know what the world is going to throw at you,” she said. Manson said that the band learned to be flexible with their plans over the years. “because whenever we have rigid plans, they tend to get broken.”

The next album would be the 7th studio album for the band after the1995 debut album, Garbage, 1998’s Version 2, 2001’s Beautiful Garbage, 2005’s Bleed Like me, 2012’s Not Your Kind of People and 2016’s Strange Little Birds.

Garbage had several great albums during their successful career, but neither was as captivating as 1998’s Version 2.0. This is why the band decided to embark on a U.S. tour in the fall to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album.

During the 17-dates tour, Garbage will play the album in full, as well as some of the B-side songs from the era. The tour will kick off on September 29th in Seattle and wrap up on October 27th in Brooklyn.

Version 2.0 is, in my opinion, the quintessential Garbage record,” said vocalist Shirley Manson in a statement. “We are all very grateful to the millions of people who took it to their hearts at the time it was released and to those who continue to love on it still.”

Upon its release, Version 2.0 received positive reviews from critics and produced several successful singles including “Push It” and “I Think I’m Paranoid.” The album received Grammy Awards nominations for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. Version 2.0 will also get a celebratory re-release on June 22nd, paired with a 10-track compilation B-sides.

Version 2.0 is the sound of a band growing up, evolving, and more than anything, gaining confidence,” drummer Butch Vig added. “When we started recording, we made a conscious decision to not re-invent ourselves, but rather take everything we learned from our debut album and filter it through the new digital technology we were grappling with. Sonically, the album has moments of razor sharp clarity and soft beauty. Indeed, it’s possibly our best album.”
