]]>The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony returned to LA’s Microsoft Theater on November 5 and it was a night to remember! In addition to Parton and Eminem, the list of this year’s inductees also included the soul singer Lionel Richie, band Duran Duran, new wave duo Eurythmics, rock star Pat Benatar, and singer-songwriter Carly Simon.
This year’s ceremony was one for the books because it covered a diverse range of genres, ranging from hip-hop and soul to country. Parton famously tried to bow out of consideration because she didn’t feel deserving of the honor as a country artist, but the ballots were already sent out to the voters so she agreed to gracefully accept this honor.
“I’m a rock star now! This is a very special night for me. When they said they were gonna put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I didn’t really feel like I had done enough to deserve that… But I’m just honored and so proud to be here tonight,” said Parton in her acceptance speech.

]]>The concert also had a charitable purpose, as all the proceedings went to the Aldrin Family Foundation‘s STEAM in order to support the organization’s education programs. The purpose of the foundations is to “cultivate the next generation of space leaders, entrepreneurs and explorers who will extend human habitation beyond the Earth to the Moon and Mars.”
As many of their fans couldn’t attend the event, the group now decided to share a clip from the concert which shows them performing the song “The Universe Alone,” from their 2015’s Paper Gods album.
“The indelible impact of the moon landing has been one of Duran Duran’s main sources of inspiration,” said Duran Duran’s keyboardist Nick Rhodes in a statement. “In the last half-century, there have been very few events that have captured the world’s attention and united everyone in such a positive way. We are truly thrilled and honored to be a part of the 50-year celebration of the Apollo 11 mission, the performance tonight, at KSCVC where the launch took place.”

Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes released an official statement regarding their upcoming performance and described his experience of watching the moon landing as surreal and awe-inspiring.
“We’d simply never witnessed anything like it before. It felt like a new beginning. Everything was encapsulated in that one moment, nothing was ever going to be the same again. It represented hope, belief, and opportunity – opening our minds to what mankind was capable of achieving,” he said.
