After months of anticipation, the Academy Awards nominations are finally in, and some of our favorite artists made it to the best original song field. Songs from Barbie: The Album are leading the way, with “I’m Just Ken”, and “What Was I Made For?” both making the cut.

“What Was I Made For?”, written by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, is one of the main contenders for this award, after winning the Golden Globe in the same category. This duo earned their second nod in the best original song field just two years after winning the Oscar for the James Bond theme song “No Time to Die”.

“What Was I Made For?” will have to face tough competition in the fellow Barbie tune “I’m Just Ken”, written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt and performed by Ryan Gosling. Ronson and Wyatt are also former recipients of the best original song Oscar for “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, which they co-wrote with Lady Gaga and Anthony Rossomando.

The list of nominees in this category will also include “The Fire Inside” by Diane Warren from Flamin’ Hot, “It Never Went Away” by Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson from American Symphony, and “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” by Osage Tribal Singers from Killers of the Flower Moon.

The winners will be announced on March 10, when the Academy Awards are set to return to LA’s Dolby Theatre, with Jimmy Kimmel serving as the host.

The list of this year’s Oscar nominees included the likes of Rihanna and Lady Gaga, but they didn’t pick up any trophies by the end of the night. The best original song Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards went to “Naatu Naatu”—a viral hit from the record-breaking Indian film RRR.

“Naatu Naatu” came into this year’s Oscars as the clear front-runner, after winning the best original song at several other shows, including the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards. M. M. Keeravani picked up the trophy for writing the music, while Chandrabosedouble was awarded for his work on the lyrics.

“Naatu Naatu” defeated a pretty tough competition at this year’s Oscars, where the list of nominees also included Diane Warren’s “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman, Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick, Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and “This Is a Life” from Everything Everywhere All at Once, by Ryan Lott, David Byrne, and Mitski.

All five songs were performed during the ceremony, with Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj taking the stage to perform “Naatu Naatu”. Even Lady Gaga took the stage, even though it was previously reported she won’t be able to prepare the musical number. Lenny Kravitz was also among the performers, and he delivered an emotional rendition of “Calling All Angels” during the annual “In Memoriam” tribute.

The 95th Academy Awards took place on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and Everything Everywhere All at Once was the biggest winner of the night with seven trophies.

Rita Ora just dropped the music video for her very first single of 2022, titled “Finish Line”, and it sees her joining forces with the iconic songwriter Diane Warren. The singer describes this song as a “women’s empowerment anthem” and it’s set to be featured in ESPN’s upcoming four-part docuseries 37 Words.

Ora instantly wanted to be a part of this project because she was moved by Warren’s lyrics and the passion they evoked because they’re all about encouraging women to stay strong and stick together.

“The fight for women’s equality is a global issue. Every day, women around the world are fighting to be seen, heard, and respected. We must continue to work to empower one another as we strive to make equality a reality for women in every part of the world,” said Ora in a statement.

Warren described “Finish Line” as an “uplifting anthem that reminds us to never give up the fight”. She previously worked with Ora on the song “Seaside” from her album Diane Warren: The Cave Sessions Vol. 1, and felt she was a perfect fit for this track because she’s a global artist who “can get this message outwards”.

37 Words is a part of The Walt Disney Company’s Fifty/50 initiative which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the passing of Title IX, the civil rights law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in educational institutions receiving federal funding.

The list of Oscar nominations is in, with The Power of the Dog leading the way, but some of our favorite recording artists also made the cut. Beyoncé and Billie Eilish are among the songwriters in the running for the Academy Award for the best original song.

Eilish is sharing her Oscar nomination with her brother and creative partner Finneas O’Connell for their work on the theme song from the latest James Bond movie No Time To Die. Beyoncé was nominated alongside DIXSON for “Be Alive” from King Richard.

The chart-topping soundtrack of Disney’s Encanto is also on the list of nominees, but not with the song you would expect. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was never even submitted for the awards consideration, and “Dos Oruguitas” written by Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated instead.

The list of nominees for the best song also includes “Down to Joy” from Belfast by Van Morrison and “Somehow You Do” from Four Good Days by Diane Warren. When it comes to the best original score category, Don’t Look Up, Dune, Encanto, Parallel Mothers, and The Power of the Dog will be competing for this award.

The 2022 Academy Awards are scheduled to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 27th.

Terence Blanchard (Da 5 Bloods), Emile Mosseri (Minari), and James Newton Howard (News of the World) are also in the running.
