]]>Bowie performed live on the show on August 23rd, 1999, with songs from different eras of his then-already long and impressive career. The show is notable for songs choices that were a rarity in his live shows, such as “Can’t Help Thinking About Me” and “Word on a Wing” that had not been played in over 20 years prior to that point.
Bowie’s appearance on the VH1 show is still remembered by staff as a unique experience. “We were used to dealing with legendary musicians,” said Bill Flanagan, executive producer, in a press release. “Still, landing David Bowie was more than a big booking. There’s no way to say this without being corny: it was an honor.”
Flanagan went on to say that “Bowie has a unique place in rock and roll. He is not only one of the most influential musicians of the era, but he does nothing unless he is fully committed.”
If you’re a hardcore Bowie fan, and the 2009 DVD release just doesn’t scratch that vinyl itch, mark October 11th on your calendar.
