Discovering new music is never going out of style, and this week brought countless amazing songs our way. From SZA and Bleachers to MGMT and Linkin Park, a diverse range of artists made it to our list of the best songs of the week with their epic new tracks.

SZA hasn’t dropped any new solo singles since sharing her acclaimed album SOS with the world, but that finally changed this week. She teased the release of its follow-up LANA with a new song “Saturn”, an escapist anthem about the lure of the unknown.

This week was pretty slow for new album releases, but some of our favorite indie artists still surprised us with new LPs. MGMT teased Loss of Life with “Dancing in Babylon” ft. Christine and the Queens, while Allie X promote her new album Girl with no Face with “Weird World”.

Kings of Leon dropped “Mustang”, Bleachers teased their next album with “Me Before You”, while Linkin Park paid homage to their late vocalist Chester Bennington by sharing the unreleased track “Friendly Fire”.

Norah Jones, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Kasabian, and Lil Durk also made it to our list, so grab your headphones and get ready to discover their new songs!

MGMT are gearing up for the release of their fifth studio album, and their latest single saw them joining forces with the perfect partner in crime. French singer Christine and the Queens is “Dancing in Babylon” with MGMT in their latest music video.

MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser described “Dancing in Babylon” as “a prodigious affair” that operates in six dimensions at once. John Cameron Mitchell and Julian Morris also make a cameo in this avant-garde music video, which hails from Ray Tintori, who shot visuals for MGMT’s biggest hits “Time to Pretend” and “Kids”.

Christine and the Queens described the process of making this video as “very rejuvenating and liberating”, adding she couldn’t wait to become a part of the MGMT universe.

“When they reached out for this power ballad, I was honored and also excited to dive into their dream, because I have the same all-encompassing approach with my work. I loved the backstory of the lyrics as well, and I work my lower register here more than usual,” said the singer in a press release.

“Dancing in Babylon” was released as the fourth single from MGMT’s upcoming fifth studio album Loss of Life, which will be released on February 23 via n Mom + Pop.

The final week of 2023 is finally upon us, and it brought several exciting new songs our way. New music releases tend to slow down once the year reaches its final stage, but that didn’t stop Peso Pluma, Winona Oak, Lost Frequencies, and Bastille from dropping new songs.

2023 has been a breakout year for Peso Pluma, and he’s ending it on a high note. He single-handedly popularized regional Mexican music, and his latest song “Rompe La Dompe” saw him joining forces with Junior H and Óscar Maydon.

The rest of our list for the week mostly consists of alternative artist who are still searching for their first big hit. During slow weeks for new music releases, we tend to shed light on rising stars who are still making a name for themselves but still deserve a spot on your playlist.

Winona Oak has been one of our favorites for quite some time, and she knocked us off our feet again with the soaring ballad “Fragile Thing”. English singer Rhodes, TikTok sensation Baby Storme, and the Afroswing artist Myles Smith also made it to our list this week, along with the DJ Lost Frequencies who joined forces with Bastille for “Head Down”

Peso Pluma ft. Junior H & Óscar Maydon: “Rompe La Dompe”

Lost Frequencies & Bastille: “Head Down”

Winona Oak: “Fragile Thing”

Myles Smith: “Behind”

Hovvdy: “Portrait”

Christine and the Queens: “Stayin’ Alive ! Chris Version”

Rhodes: “All I’ve Ever Known”

We can count on our favorite artists to give us amazing new songs week after week, but this one was truly an embarrassment of the riches. From glitzy pop bangers to vibey tracks by our favorite indie bands, there’s something for everyone on our latest list of the best new songs of the week.

If you prefer alternative sound, you won’t be disappointed by our list, because we have new releases by Depeche Mode, Tame Impala, and Róisín Murphy to look forward to this week… And don’t even get us started on Florence Welch’s amazing cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl”!

Miley Cyrus – “River”

Maluma – “La Reina”

Mae Muller – “I Wrote A Song”

Florence + The Machine – “Just A Girl”

It seems like Charli XCX and Christine and the Queens enjoyed their collaboration on the hit single “Gone” as the two singers decided to team up again. This time the occasion was a performance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, where they did a cover of 1975’s “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME.”

During their Live Lounge appearance, the duo also performed “Gone.”

You can hear their entire set on this link, while BBC also shared the part of Charli XCX and Christine and the Queens’ “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME” cover on social media.

Charli XCX and Christine and the Queens’ duet “Gone” was released back in July and was met with positive reviews with critics praising the lyrics as well as the mixture of retro aesthetics with a modern sound. The song will be a part Charli XCX’s upcoming third studio album Charli which is set for release on September 13th. The record will feature a number of other guests including Lizzo, Sky Ferreira, HAIM, and others.

Christine and the Queens’ latest studio release came late in 2018 when she presented her second studio album, Chris. Heloise Letissier of Christine and the Queens has praised the improved diversity in the music industry, but has admitted that she would like to see more “female sound engineers”.

Over the decades, the music industry has been typically male-dominated only in recent years, this a problem that artists have been working to amend. More and more talented female artists have been taken to big stages and this is something that Letissier commends.

“The pop landscape is filled with different representations of femininity, which I appreciate,” she told BBC Music after her Glastonbury performance. “You have Solange, Billie Eilish, Beyoncé. You have many different ways to be a woman in the industry, and I think that’s really cool.

“I think the next step to take it even further would be to have more women having really technical jobs, like female sound engineers, female producers. That’s the next step to reach at some point.”

And while we’re on the subject of Christine & The Queens, here a snippet from her Glastonbury set this weekend:

During her recent appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, French pop star Christine and the Queens decided to deliver a welcoming surprise to her fans. Besides singing her latest hit “5 Dollars,” she also did an inspiring mash-up performance of Rihanna’s “Kiss It Better” and Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights.”

If you are wondering whether the 30-year-old singer/songwriter managed to make these two songs work together, check out her performance in full below.

Christine and the Queens is currently in the UK promoting her latest studio album Chris, which was released back in late September. The record, which serves as a follow up to her 2014’s debut album Chaleur Humaine, was presented in two versions, English and French. It received widespread acclaim from the critics who called it “refreshing, empowering record.”

Chris also had a solid commercial run, being certified gold in France and topping the country’s charts. The album also reached top five in six other countries including the UK.

Christine and the Queens is currently touring Europe in order to promote her new album and is scheduled to perform in the UK, Switzerland, and France until the end of the year. In early 2019, she will also tour Australia making stops in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Newtown.
