Evanescence’s 2003 hit “Bring Me To Life” remains the band’s most popular song even after two decades. But it’s no secret that the group, especially vocalist Amy Lee, is not too fond of its original version.

While “Bring Me To Life” got Evanescence a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance, Lee never shied away from saying that she didn’t like the rap part of the song, performed by Paul McCoy of the band 12 Stones. It turns out that she hasn’t changed her mind over the years, reiterating her dislike in a recent interview with Metal Hammer.

Lee explained that the band never wanted to have the rap part in the song but that their label made them do it. They believed that it would perform better on the charts that way and appeal to the growing nu-metal audience.

Evanescence still performs the original version if they happen to cross ways with McCoy or have ave “somebody that fits into that spot.”

“But that part, that sound, that’s not my style. That’s why it was such a difficult pill to swallow, even on one song. But we won because we didn’t have to change our whole sound,” Lee added.

Evanescence is currently touring across the U.S. with the British rockers Muse. The group is also slated to perform at a number of festivals across North America and Europe in the summer. They released their most recent album, The Bitter Truth, in 2021.

After a three-year long break, Evanescence is getting ready to bring us to life with their fifth studio album.

Amy Lee recently revealed they’re gearing up to go back to the studio and release new record in 2020.

The band’s leader discussed their future plans in a recent interview with SiriusXM’s Grant Random.

“This is sort of a creation year for us. We’re playing a few festivals and some headlining shows – a little bit, but not too heavy. And in the time in between, getting together and starting the writing process for a new album,” revealed Lee.

The last Evanescence album, Synthesis, came out in 2017, and the band embarked on international tour shortly after its release.

In addition to several new songs, this record mostly consisted of new versions of band’s old tracks, inspired by electronic elements, and featured such hits as “Bring Me to Life,” “My Immortal” and “Lacrymosa.”
