]]>Perry recently set down for an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, and they took a moment to discuss her future on American Idol. She shocked the audience by saying that the upcoming Season 22 will probably be her last alongside co-hosts Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
Making this decision wasn’t easy for Perry, who told Kimmel she loves The Idol “so much”, adding “It’s connected me with the heart of America but I feel like I need to feel that pulse to my own beat.”
Perry’s American Idol departure makes sense in the grand scheme of things because she has a lot of exciting plans for 2024. She’ll headline Rock in Rio in Brazil this fall, and she’s currently gearing up for the release of new music.
Perry joined American Idol in 2018 and stuck around for seven seasons, including the upcoming Season 22, set to premiere on February 12 on ABC. She’s open to coming back in the future, but her main goal for 2024 is to “see the world and maybe bring new music.”

]]>“17 years ago, I would have never thought that the show would have had the impact—look at what it did! The domino effect is crazy,” said Clarkson, who was the first-ever winner of American Idol and went on to become a best-selling singer and a TV personality.
Shedding his trademark cynicism, Cowell replied: “I actually genuinely do not believe we would be sitting here today if you hadn’t entered the show.” He later added that while they got to know many great singers that the first season, what they really needed was someone who would sell lots of records, and that someone turned out to be Clarkson.
Clarkson herself revealed she wasn’t even aware that she was auditioning for a TV show when she first stood before the three judges. She said her apartment had just burned down and she was living in her car for several days before the audition.
Clarkson’s original audition is definitely worth rewatching; at 20 years old, wearing a shirt made of an old pair of pants she had designed herself, the young Kelly Clarkson immediately took over the audition room and showed us exactly why she would go on to become America’s first American Idol.

]]>Morris took a walk down memory lane during a recent appearance on Seth Meyers’ talk show and recalled what happened when she auditioned for the popular singing competition show over a decade ago.
“I have this very traumatic vivid memory of auditioning for American Idol when I was 17. You audition for a 20-year-old producer who probably has no music cred… You sing your heart out and my entire group got cut, like, ‘Sorry, you have to take the walk of shame,’” recalled Maren Morris.
She still managed to find some poetic justice in the whole thing, because many contestants now audition for the show performing her songs – and she still gets the check. Years after her American Idol audition, Morris has two successful albums behind her and one Grammy award on her trophy shelf.
