]]>As it turns out, Doherty did not get on with the band and actually used to outright refuse to listen to them. Despite sharing a fanbase, Doherty confessed to Phil Taggart on his podcast that he “heard they were good” so ignored them completely.
“The Arctic Monkeys, I just refused to listen to them,” he recalled. “And managed to avoid them for a long long time, ’cause I heard they were good and I didn’t want to listen to them…”
He then went onto confess that he actually went as far as avoiding them in person anytime they were sharing a stage.
“There’s been a few things that have happened where I didn’t know them by sight and they’ve come to say hello and I’ve had them slung out or something, and then when I tried to go say hello I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere near their backstage,” said Doherty. “So I still haven’t met them.”
He then joked: “I dunno, that fella [Turner]. I suppose he’s a good songwriter, isn’t he? I wouldn’t want to be in a relationship with him though. He really pulls them apart in those songs, the ones that I’ve heard, you know? There’s a few embarrassed girls out there I’ll tell you now.”
And that’s your random and surprising fact about Pete Doherty for the day.

]]>Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino has only been out for three months and has had mixed reviews. NME described the album as “the Arctic Monkeys like you’ve never heard them before” and perhaps this is why fans seem to be divided on whether they rate the LP.
It might not be long, however, before fans have something new to sink their teeth into. When Alex Turner was asked about a potential follow-up album, he seemed keen to jump back in the studio.
“You know, again I don’t know, we’ve not quite reached a conclusion on what we’re gonna do, but I’d like to, yeah,” he said to Beat’s 1.
“Maybe just for the reason that I’ve really been enjoying playing this one on the road and that excitement of playing together could lead to jumping back in the studio. Whereas, like when we made this Tranquility Base one, that wasn’t coming off the back of a tour.
“I remember we nearly did [go back into the studio] after AM, there were a moment where we were just like, ‘Let’s go and do another thing and keep going!’ I’m glad we didn’t now but there was definitely an urge there to do that.”

]]>The Sheffield band released their sixth EP Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino this month, which featured the band moving away from their usual sound.
During a recent interview with the Sunday Times, Turner was asked why he chooses to stick with the band rather than go solo.
“I enjoy their company,” Turner said in reference to his bandmates. “So, for instance, on this project [Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino], I was really unsure about what I was doing and lost with it completely. Then, when Jamie [Cook, guitarist] came out to LA to join me and we worked on stuff together, through his encouragement suddenly I felt completely different.
“[Cook] getting excited about it, like the way I remember him getting excited about some idea in his bedroom in his mum’s house when we were 16… I still get that buzz out of his reaction.”

The list contains a whole array of music artists, from Nina Simone, Nino Rota, and Ennio Morricone to Marvin Gaye, The Stills-Young Band, Rolling Stones, and Joe Cooker. Turner ended his note with: “Danny, In the words of Joe Cocker. Rock on in one way or another. All The Best.”

The interesting thing about the Arctic Monkeys’ new record were the rumors that Alex Turner wrote the songs included on Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino for his solo album but ended up changing his mind. The 32-year-old musician decided to set the record straight in his recent interview with Germany’s Intro.
“I was never interested in making a solo album,” said Turner. “I am a part of this band and one would disrespect the other. Nevertheless, I wanted to make this music, it was in me. When you compose on the piano, you automatically get different results than on the guitar. And it was important to me to say goodbye to the realism of most of the Arctic Monkeys stuff.”
