]]>Now Turner decided to take things further and cover the Strokes‘ hit song “Is This It?” at a recent live show Arctic Monkeys performed at Forest Hills Stadium in New York.
Unlike the original version, this one has more synth elements and is characterized by Turner’s vibrato hum. Check out the Arctic Monkeys’ cover of “Is This It?” below.
According to Pitchfork, this wasn’t the first time Arctic Monkeys covered the Strokes. On previous occasions, the band played covers of “Take It Or Leave It” and “Reptilia.”
Alex Turner is known to be a big the Strokes fan, something which he often mentioned in his earlier interviews.
“I remember I used to play that first album in college all the time when our band was first starting,” Turner told NME in 2011. “Loads of people were into them, so loads of bands coming out sounded like them. And I remember consciously trying not to sound like the Strokes, deliberately taking bits out of songs that sounded too much like them, but I still loved that album.”

The list contains a whole array of music artists, from Nina Simone, Nino Rota, and Ennio Morricone to Marvin Gaye, The Stills-Young Band, Rolling Stones, and Joe Cooker. Turner ended his note with: “Danny, In the words of Joe Cocker. Rock on in one way or another. All The Best.”

In case you want to listen to the songs that Alex Turner used as an inspiration for Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, the Monkeys fans have already made a Spotify playlist that you can check out below.
The interesting thing about the Arctic Monkeys’ new record were the rumors that Alex Turner wrote the songs included on Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino for his solo album but ended up changing his mind. The 32-year-old musician decided to set the record straight in his recent interview with Germany’s Intro.
“I was never interested in making a solo album,” said Turner. “I am a part of this band and one would disrespect the other. Nevertheless, I wanted to make this music, it was in me. When you compose on the piano, you automatically get different results than on the guitar. And it was important to me to say goodbye to the realism of most of the Arctic Monkeys stuff.”
