We can always count on the Academy Awards to bring some amazing performances our way, and this year’s ceremony certainly delivered. The night full of surprises saw “El Mal” from Emilia Pérez win the Oscar for the best original song, but these three epic performances ended up stealing the show.

“Wicked” Medley

No musical this year created more buzz than Wicked, and it was only fitting for this film to get some time in the spotlight at the Oscars. Its stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande opened the show with an epic medley that included “Over the Rainbow”, “Home”, and “Defying Gravity”, delivering one of the night’s most memorable moments.

Quincy Jones Tribute

The late composer Quincy Jones was one of the recipients of this year’s Academy Honorary Awards, and the Oscars found a special way to celebrate his legacy. Queen Latifah was in charge of delivering the tribute to Jones, which included the song “Ease on Down the Road” from the hit Broadway musical The Wiz.

“James Bond” Tribute

James Bond tribute honoring the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson was also a part of this year’s Oscars. Pop stars Lisa, Doja Cat, and Raye performed some of the hit songs from this beloved action franchise, including “Live and Let Die”, “Diamonds are Forever”, and “Skyfall”, while The Substance star Margaret Qualley danced in the background.

The 2025 Academy Awards are just a few days away, and we finally know who’ll hit the iconic stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The list of performers has been unveiled, and it includes Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, plus Lisa, Doja Cat, Raye, and Queen Latifah.

Grande and Erivo recently co-starred in the hit musical Wicked and both received Oscar nominations for their respective performances. They’ll reportedly open the ceremony with a medley of the biggest hits from this film, but this rumor hasn’t been officially confirmed by the Academy.

Lisa, Doja Cat, and Raye, who recently collaborated on the song “Born Again” from Lisa’s debut solo album Alter Ego, will also perform at the Oscars. The hip-hop legend Queen Latifah will be a part of the show, which will feature “showstopping performances celebrating the filmmaking community and some of its legends.”

“El Mal” and “Mi Camino”  from Emilia Pérez, “The Journey” from The Six Triple Eight, ”Like a Bird” from Sing Sing, and “Never Too Late” from Elton John: Never Too Late are in the running for the best original song, but they won’t be performed during the show, as a response to the Los Angeles wildfires that devastated California last month.

“What Was I Made For?” from Barbie entered this year’s Oscars as the top contender for the best original song award, and it lived up to the hype! Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell won their second Academy Award for this song, but Ryan Gosling’s performance of “I’m Just Ken” ended up stealing the show.

“What Was I Made For?” defeated Barbie’s I’m Just Ken”, written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, “The Fire Inside” by Diane Warren from Flamin’ Hot, “It Never Went Away” by Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson from American Symphony, and “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” by Scott George from Killers of the Flower Moon to win Eilish and O’Connel their second Oscar.

They previously collected the best original song trophy for the James Bond theme song from “No Time to Die”. “What Was I Made For?” already won multiple awards coming into the Oscars on Sunday night, including a Grammy for the best song written for visual media.

Despite losing the best original song Oscar to “What Was I Made For?”, “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie was one of the highlights of this year’s ceremony. Ryan Gosling delivered an electrifying performance, which paid homage to Marilyn Monroe’s film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and brought the Oscars crowd to its feet alongside Mark Ronson, Slash, and his co-stars Scott Evans, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben Adir, and Ncuti Gatwa.

It’s somewhat of an Oscar tradition to have all the best original song nominees performed at the ceremony, and the Academy will be honoring it this year. Billie Eilish, Becky G, and Ryan Gosling will bring the nominated songs to LA’s Dolby Theatre in less than two weeks.

Eilish is the front-runner to win the best original song with “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie, and she’ll deliver another rendition of this moving ballad at the Oscars ceremony. She previously won a Grammy and a Golden Globe for co-writing this song with her brother and frequent collaborator Finneas O’Connell.

“I’m Just Ken” from Barbie is also a strong contender for this award, and we’ll get to hear it live during the Oscars. Ryan Gosling, who performed this viral hit in the original film, will bring the Kenergy to the Academy Awards alongside Mark Ronson.

Becky G will take the stage to perform Diane Warren’s “The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot, while Jon Batiste will deliver a rendition of “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony. They’ll be joined by Scott George and the Osage Singers, performing “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon.

The 2024 Academy Awards will return to the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 10, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting the show.

All the best original song nominees are traditionally performed at the Oscars, and there are a lot of speculations surrounding the potential “I’m Just Ken” performance. Ryan Gosling, who originally performed this song in Barbie, recently addressed the speculations and said he’s “open to” hitting the Oscars stage.

Gosling recently set down with Variety for an in-depth interview about the success of Barbie and preparing to play Ken in this record-breaking blockbuster. His epic musical number “I’m Just Ken” came up during an interview, and Gosling even opened up about the possibility of performing it at the Oscars.

“I still have not been asked. It might be too much of a risk to have me do it. I don’t know how that would work. But I’m open to it,” said Gosling, and added he only got used to performing for smaller crowds, during his time with the indie band Dead Man’s Bones.

“I’m Just Ken”, written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, is currently in the running for the best original song at the Oscars. Diane Warren’s “The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot, Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson’s “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony, Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell’s “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie, and Scott George’s “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon also made the cut. The Academy is yet to unveil the list of performers and presenters for the upcoming ceremony, taking place on March 10.

After months of anticipation, the Academy Awards nominations are finally in, and some of our favorite artists made it to the best original song field. Songs from Barbie: The Album are leading the way, with “I’m Just Ken”, and “What Was I Made For?” both making the cut.

“What Was I Made For?”, written by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, is one of the main contenders for this award, after winning the Golden Globe in the same category. This duo earned their second nod in the best original song field just two years after winning the Oscar for the James Bond theme song “No Time to Die”.

“What Was I Made For?” will have to face tough competition in the fellow Barbie tune “I’m Just Ken”, written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt and performed by Ryan Gosling. Ronson and Wyatt are also former recipients of the best original song Oscar for “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, which they co-wrote with Lady Gaga and Anthony Rossomando.

The list of nominees in this category will also include “The Fire Inside” by Diane Warren from Flamin’ Hot, “It Never Went Away” by Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson from American Symphony, and “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” by Osage Tribal Singers from Killers of the Flower Moon.

The winners will be announced on March 10, when the Academy Awards are set to return to LA’s Dolby Theatre, with Jimmy Kimmel serving as the host.

Lady Gaga is one of the nominees at this year’s Oscars, but we won’t get to watch her perform live. The Academy announced she won’t perform her best song nominee “Hold My Hand”, while also revealing that Lenny Kravitz will be in charge of leading the “In Memoriam” tribute.

There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding Gaga’s performance, and she stayed quiet even after the rest of the best song-nominated artists confirmed they’ll take part in the ceremony. She eventually told the producers she’ll attend the ceremony, but she won’t have time to prepare a musical number because she’s busy shooting Joker: Folie à Deux alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

Lady Gaga is no stranger to performing at the Oscars, and this marks her third best original song nomination. She previously delivered powerful performances of the Diane Warren collaboration “Til It Happens to You” from The Hunting Ground and “Shallow” from A Star Is Born.

The list of performers at the Oscars on Sunday will include Rihanna (“Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Sofia Carson and Diane Warren (“Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman), David Byrne, Son Lux, and Stephanie Hsu (“This Is a Life” from Everything Everywhere All at Once), and Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava (“Naatu Naatu” from RRR). Lenny Kravitz is also set to perform during the “In Memoriam” segment.

After a lot of anticipation, the nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards are in, and the best original song category is pretty crowded. The list of contenders for this prestigious award includes several A-list artists, starting with Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

Rihanna scored her very first Oscar nomination with “Lift Me Up”, the lead single from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which she co-wrote alongside the Nigerian singer Tems, the director Ryan Coogler, and composer Ludwig Göransson.

Lady Gaga owes her latest Oscar nomination to “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick, which she co-wrote with Michael Tucker. She previously won an Oscar for “Shallow” from A Star is Born, in addition to receiving a nomination for “Til It Happens to You” from The Hunting Ground.

The list of nominees for the best original song also includes “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman, “This is a Life” from Everything Everywhere All At Once, and “Naatu Naatu” from RRR. The last song is the main front-runner at this year’s Oscars after winning a Golden Globe and several more awards in the same category.

The 95th Academy Awards will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California with Jimmy Kimmel serving as the host. The list of performers is yet to be announced, but nominated songs are usually performed live during the ceremony.

The list of 82 tracks eligible for the best original song at the upcoming Academy Awards is in and it includes some of the leading recording artists working today. Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift are among the artists who made the cut, while Doja Cat is surprisingly not included on the list.

The list of most talked-about songs from the year’s popular soundtracks includes Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick, Rhianna’s “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Billie Eilish and Finneas’ “Nobody Like U” from Turning Red, and Taylor Swift’s “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing.

One song that shockingly didn’t make the cut? Doja Cat’s “Vegas” from Elvis. This viral hit was apparently deemed ineligible because it interpolates Elvis Presley’s ’50s classic “Hound Dog”, thus breaking Academy’s strict rules.

Songs by Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga have been nominated for Golden Globe earlier this year, together with two more tracks included on Oscar’s list—”Ciao Papa” from Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and “Naatu Naatu” from the Indian smash hit RRR.

The list of contenders also includes the likes of Selena Gomez, the Weeknd, Rihanna, Shawn Mendes, and Brandi Carlile, and we’ll see if any of them manage to make the cut when the 15-title song shortlist is announced on December 21.

This year’s Academy Awards were one wild ride and they featured several pretty amazing musical moments. Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell gave us one of the very best and they picked up the award for the best original song for “No Time To Die”.

The brother-sister duo was an obvious front-runner for this prestigious award after winning a slew of other trophies for writing the latest James Bond theme song. This victory comes shortly after they managed to pick up a Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Movie Award in the same category. “No Time To Die” was also rewarded with a Grammy Award for the best song written for visual media.

Eilish and O’Connell managed to beat a tough competition on Sunday night, including “Be Alive” from King Richard by Beyoncé, “Dos Oruguitas” from Encanto by Lin-Manuel Miranda, “Down to Joy” from Belfast by Van Morrison, and “Somehow You Do” from Four Good Days by Diane Warren.

Van Morrison’s “Down to Joy” was the only song not performed during the live broadcast because the artist couldn’t attend the ceremony due to his tour schedule. Beyoncé was in charge of opening the ceremony with “Be Alive”, while the cast of Encanto delighted the audience with a performance of smash hit “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” alongside Megan Thee Stallion, Becky G, and Luis Fonsi.
