]]>Eminem teased the release of his new album during the NFL Draft in Detroit, where he shared a short video that sees a true crime reporter discussing the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady
“Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies. The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise,” says the reporter in the video.
Eminem’s long-time collaborator 50 Cent also makes a cameo, saying that Slim Shady is not a friend, but a psychopath. Eminem makes a brief appearance at the end of the video, claiming “I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim.”
The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace) will be Eminem’s first studio album since Music to Be Murdered By in 2020. It debuted atop the Billboard 200, making him the first artist with ten consecutive No. 1 albums in the US, and produced singles “Darkness”, “Godzilla” ft. Juice Wrld, and “Those Kinda Nights” ft. They also dropped the music video for the lead single “Overcompensate” and shared a 13-song tracklist, revealing they’re planning to film a music video for every single one.
This creative undertaking has proven to be quite challenging, and Tyler Joseph announced they’re delaying the release of Clancy to give themselves enough time to finish all the videos.
“When I first told Josh and Mark and everyone on our team that I wanted to do a music video for every song on the album ‘Clancy’ that’s coming out, I told them it’s because I love these songs and I believe in them enough to pretend to sing in front of a camera for each one,” said Joseph in a video he shared on the social media platform X.
The release of Clancy is now set for May 24, and its third single “Backslide” is hitting the shelves tomorrow.

]]>Imagine Dragons made an epic comeback with the genre-defying single “Eyes Closed” earlier this month – and there’s more where that came from! They officially announced the release of their sixth studio album Loom, which will be released on June 28 and feature a total of ten songs.
Imagine Dragons also shared a cover of their new album, which perfectly sums up its themes, according to the band’s frontman Dan Reynolds.
“You can’t really tell if it’s a sunset or a sunrise, and then there are two people kind of separated standing in front of it. That really kind of sums it up thematically when I listen to it, Is the beginning of something new, or is this the end of something?” Reynolds told The Associated Press.
Imagine Dragons are planning to celebrate the release of Loom by taking it on the road this summer. Their biggest North American headlining tour to date will kick off in Camden, NJ on June 20, and they’re planning to wrap it up with a concert at Los Angeles’ iconic Hollywood Bowl on October 22.

]]>The post Taylor Swift Gets Vulnerable & Vindictive on “The Tortured Poets Department” appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>Swift has been through a lot since Midnight hit the shelves in 2022—and we’re not just talking about her record-breaking The Eras Tour. The singer’s romantic relationship often served as the main source of inspiration for her music, and Tortured Poets continues this trend, but not in a way you’d think.
This is Swift’s first album of new material since her six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn came to an end, and many expected their breakup would be the main subject of this album. Instead of simply throwing Alwyn under the bus, Swift decided to explore many stages of heartbreak on this record, reserving her vindictive quips for a short-term fling with Matty Healy and giving her some of her edgiest lyrics since Reputation.
Tortured Poets is at its strongest when Swift is ready to bare her emotions and get vulnerable, instead of resorting to pettiness. “So Long, London” is the case in point, and it’s one of her most emotional and raw breakup anthems since her magnum opus “All Too Well”.
Her vulnerability doesn’t shine as strongly on the rest of the album, but Reputation fans will appreciate the vengeful tone and audacious nature of some of the album’s buzziest songs, such as “But Daddy I Love Him”, “The Tortured Poets Department”, and especially “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived”. She also found two pretty great collaborators in Post Malone (“Fortnight”) and Florence Welch (“Florida!!!”).
Swift’s storytelling skills remain as strong as ever on The Tortured Poets Department, but this collection of songs doesn’t feel as cohesive as some of her recent albums. Its synth-pop sound feels repetitive at times, making us wonder if Swift’s collaboration with producer Jack Antonoff has run its course – especially when we compare it with Aaron Dessner’s work on the album’s second volume The Anthology.
The Tortured Poets Department is a solid synth-pop record that bridges the gap between Swift’s several eras. It gives us a moment of boldness, audacity, and vulnerability that continue the singer’s legacy as one of the best storytellers of her generation, but it also feels like a pit stop until the next great thing.
