]]>Seven years after the musical icon passed, the diva’s previously unreleased rework of her 1990 cover of Winwood’s 1986 hit, debuts at No. 63 on Billboard’s weekly ranking of the most commercially successful songs.
The Whitney Houston estate offered Kygo the archival recording of her original cover, which was previously released as a Japan-only bonus track on the physical version of her 1990 album I’m Your Baby Tonight.
Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and sole executor of her estate, told Entertainment Weekly that the revived cover of “Higher Love” is the first of multiple musical projects.
“Before she passed, there was so much negativity around the name; it wasn’t about the music anymore,” Houston said. “People had forgotten how great she was. They let all the personal things about her life outweigh why they fell in love with her in the first place.”

]]>The beloved late singer’s track was released by DJ-producer Kygo.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the track titled “Higher Love” is a remixed version of Houston’s cover of the 1986 Steve Winwood song, which was released as a Japan-only bonus track on her 1990 album, I’m Your Baby Tonight.
“I was honored when the Whitney Houston estate reached out and presented me with the opportunity to work with one of the greatest female vocalists of all time,” Kygo said in a statement. “I reworked the song from scratch and am really happy with how it turned out!”
“The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and our new partner Primary Wave are delighted with the collaboration between Kygo and Whitney. We knew Kygo would be the right producer to enhance Whitney’s powerful vocal performance on “Higher Love,” to the standards and expectations that Whitney’s fans have recognized for over three decades.”
“The resurgence of this precious archival performance will carry Whitney’s musical legacy on to a younger generation for years to come,” the statement continues. “Everyone should be ready to dance to this uplifting and inspiring record — a testament to Kygo’s incredible talent, and a reminder of why we fell in love with Whitney from the very beginning!”

]]>Pat Houston, the sister-in-law of the legendary singer, shared the news with the New York Times and revealed why she feels now is the perfect time to work on this series of projects.
“Everything is about timing for me. It’s been quite emotional for the past seven years. But now it’s about being strategic. People had forgotten how great she was. They let all the personal things about her life outweigh why they fell in love with her in the first place,” explained Houston.
This announcement comes shortly after Primary Wave Music Publishing acquired 50 percent of Whitney Houston’s estate. The new deal includes a potential for a touring hologram, a Broadway musical, branding deals and an album of unreleased songs recorded by six-time Grammy winner, before her death in 2012.

]]>Rogers delivered her rendition of the ‘80s dance anthem while stopping by for an interview on the Canadian radio show The Strombo Show. She described Whitney Houston’s classic as an important part of her current tour, which she performs at every show. “This song comes on after we finish playing our last song and it’s been really special to see the crowd sort of turn into a dance party on its own with this song,” she explained.
Her mournful version of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” perfectly reflects the musical style Rogers curated over the years, starting with her breakout hit “Alaska”. Her life turned upside down after she performed this song in front of Pharrell Williams, who attended a masterclass held at her school.
Her career was on an upward spiral ever since, and Maggie Rogers really made a splash with her first album “Heard It in a Past Life”. It was released on January 18 and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 Chart.
