]]>Hozier’s latest LP hit the shelves on March 1, and it’s the first rock album to snag the top spot on Billboard’s chart since Mumford & Sons’ Delta debuted at no. 1 three months ago. Irish musician described “Wasteland, Baby!” as a collection of “love songs for the end of the world.”
Hozier named the whole thing after the last track on the album, because he felt it perfectly sums up gallows humor that’s across all the songs, and forces listeners to face the worst case scenario with a smile on their face.
“Wasteland, Baby! seemed to sum up the vibe, whether some of the songs are about enjoying taking part in a cultural wasteland or a moral wasteland. [It has that] sense of doom and gloom – and the weird little grin that they carry,” explained Hozier during an interview with “Time”.
