Neo Yokio promised that the new album would be “pushing in a lot of different directions” and it seems that he was not lying. The first track, “2021”, features a playful keyboard part, choral-like vocals singing “boy” and Ezra Koenig’s vocals seem to have improved a lot. He sings: “where we think about me / I can wait a year but I couldn’t wait three” and it’s really darn catchy.

The band also released their new track “Harmony Halls” in the form of 120 minutes of guitar. It’s delightfully pleasing and has a habit of getting annoying then getting pleasurable again in cycles of two minutes. It seems that Vampire Weekend have decided to get more experimental with their new album but at the core, they are still the same old New York alternative rock band that we know and love.

The full album will be released later in 2019.
