There will be a new album containing recordings of Jimi Hendrix in 2018. Titled Both Sides of the Sky, the album will contain the music Hendrix recorded between 1968 and 1970 and will feature 10 previously unreleased songs. The 13-track album is set for release on March 9, 2018. Both Sides of the Sky will be will be Jimi Hendrix’ 12th posthumous studio release and final piece of the trilogy which contains previously released 2010’s Valleys of Neptune and 2013’s People, Hell, and Angels.

The album will feature Hendrix’ works with original Jimi Hendrix Experience members Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding and Band of Gypsys (Buddy Miles and Billy Cox) as well as collaborations with multi-instrumentalists Johnny Winter and Stephen Stills. The album will be produced by John McDermott, Janie Hendrix, and Eddie Kramer, recording engineer who worked with Hendrix on the albums made during the artist’s life.

“The first thing is you put the tape on and you listen to it and the hairs just stand up right on the back of your neck and you go, ’Oh my God. This is too (expletive) incredible,” – said Kramer about the album. “It’s an incredible thing. Forty, 50 years later here we are and I’m listening to these tapes going, ‘Oh my God, that’s an amazing performance.’”

Kramer also revealed that there are plans to release audio and video live footage of Hendrix in the future, but couldn’t say a specific date.

“It was amazing just to watch him in the studio or live. The brain kicks off the thought process — it goes through his brain through his heart and through his hands and onto the guitar, and it’s a seamless process,” – Kramer added. “It’s like a lead guitar and a rhythm guitar at the same time, and it’s scary. There’s never been another Jimi Hendrix, at least in my mind.”
