These numbers are pretty impressive considering the album’s unorthodox rollout. Vultures 1 was released as a digital album and hit streaming services on February 10 through West’s YZY brand after several major delays. Its CD and vinyl versions are expected to be released at a later date.

The success of Vultures 1 was boosted by its star-studded tracklist, which featured a total of 16 songs, including collaborations with Freddie Gibbs, Quavo, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, Lil Durk, and Chris Brown.

As for the rest of the Billboard 200 chart for this week, Usher scored his highest charting album in over a decade with Coming Home at No. 2. Noah Kahan’s Stick Season climbed to No. 3 following the release of a deluxe edition, ahead of former No. 1s Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time and SZA’s SOS.

In “Ego Death,” West raps about several topics including the Super Bowl, the Grammys, birth control, the struggles of Black musicians, and voting which can be seen in the lines, “All these halfway movements/ Need a lot of improvements…/Showin’ up to the Grammys mad/Tryin’ to win something we already had/Tryin’ to become something we already are.”

Ty Dolla $ign previously worked with West on West’s 2016 “Fade” which appeared on his album The Life of Pablo.

Ty Dolla $ign’s last album, Beach House 3 was released in 2017 and since then he’s made guest appearances, but hasn’t come out with much new music besides for 2018’s “MigTy” with Jeremih.

Skrillex and Twigs came in and blessed us with the magic that only they can put on the record. I played it once at a house party and everyone went crazy. A clip leaked online and shit but that’s all good. I just had to find the right time to put it out, so I’m excited that it’s finally THAT TIME! My new album is done and it’s coming very soon. The rapper is currently applying the finishing touches to the album. Meanwhile, West is currently working on another album called Yhandi in Africa, but was working with TY Dolla $ign beforehand.

The rapper announced in an Instagram Live message to fans that the record is almost complete.

“The album is coming,” he said. “I’m almost done with it now. Just putting the last, final touches on it. Me and Kanye are making it together. They left to Africa though. I’m doing my parts now then when we get back together, we’ll finish it.”

Meanwhile, Yhandi was scheduled to be released earlier this year. The new release date is rumored to be November 29.

West spoke about the completion of the album and his desire to go to Africa: “I felt this energy when I was in Chicago, I felt the roots. But we have to go to what is known as Africa.”

“I need to go, I need to find out what it’s really called. Just grab the soil and be and cook food, five meals a day so the metabolism stays up, have my kids in the studio, and have the mic in the open so you can hear nature while we’re recording.”
