French filmmaker Valérie Lemercier will be in charge of both directing this exciting project and portraying the Canadian music icon.

The film will follow Dion’s life from birth though her childhood in 1960s Quebec, where she grew up as the youngest of 14 children in a poor, but happy family. It will also focus on her rise to stardom, relationship with manager and future husband René Angélil and enormous grief following his death.

Lemercier decided to get on board after learning more about Dion’s family history. She was moved by everything the iconic musician went through and decided to do all in her power to share her story with the rest of the world.

“I discovered the strength of their love story and their great humor, and I better understood how the alchemy of their three individual ambitions made an unwanted, little girl the greatest star on the planet,” explained Lemercier.

French studio Gaumont will be in charge of bringing this movie to the theaters in 2020, but they made it clear The Power of Love won’t be your usual biopic. They described it as a fictional homage, which heavily draws from Dion’s life and uses her hit songs to tell the story.
