Indie rockers The Libertines, often dubbed as the UK’s response to The Strokes, shared a new song this week. The riveting track “Shiver” serves as the third single from their upcoming fourth studio album, All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade.

“Shiver” sees The Libertines doing what they do best. A captivating drum beat intertwined with minimalistic but punctuating guitar and bass lines set the stage for the song’s lyrics to paint a vivid story. The band returns to their recurring themes of Albion, unforeseen goodbyes, and utopian dreams of Arcadia.

Giving fans some insights in the making of the track, The Libertines’ Carl Barat and Peter Doherty shared that “Shiver” is actually two songs joined in one. Each of them brought a song to the table and decided to simply “mash them up.”

“I would probably find it difficult to work out who did what because we were both there the whole time through its creation,” Doherty said while adding that the original title of the song was “The Last Dream Of Every Dying Soldier.”

The Libertines will release All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade on 8 March. The album was announced with a single “Run Run Run” followed by a track titled “Night of the Hunter.” This will be the group’s first album since 2015’s Anthems for Doomed Youth.
