]]>Speaking with Zocalo, Smith revealed that he has “prepared” three new albums with The Cure, with the first one having a working title Live From the Moon.
“Actually I have prepared three albums, two of them more advanced. The first will be the one that we will release very soon. I think that the first single, or the whole album, will come out this Christmas, or a little earlier. It has the title of ‘Live From the Moon’ and it will surely change its name” – Smith revealed.
According to Smith, the second album will feature “freer pieces and with a more pronounced, stronger sound,” while the third one is described as “a noise disc, with different aspects and environments, all based on experiences on a stage.”
The Cure was quite active this year, embarking on a tour that saw them playing mostly festival dates across Europe, U.S., Asia, and Australia. This was part of the band’s celebration efforts for their 40th anniversary. The band also released a documentary this year, which chronicles their experience during the tour.

]]>It’s not uncommon among bands to sell tickets for their “last ever tour” only to make a comeback a couple of years later when they get bored of retirement or need some extra cash. The kings of this stunt are The Cure, who have promised time and time again that their latest album will be their last. Now though, it seems they really mean it.
Speaking with SiriusXM, keyboardist Roger O’Donnell confessed their upcoming album likely will be their last and that it will be their “saddest” and “most dramatic” record yet.
“It’s epic, I can say that about it. I mean, playing it and sitting there and listening back to it… everybody’s jaws were dropping. I said to Robert a couple of years ago, ‘We have to make one more record, and it has to be the saddest record that’s ever been made and the most dramatic’. And I think it will be.”
Earlier in the interview, O’Donnell shared that he believes this will be the band’s last record.
“I personally think it will be the last Cure record,” he said.. “I know it’s been said a million times before, but at this stage in our lives…”

]]>It has been 40 years since the band’s first album and it has been 30 years since their staple goth album Disintegration hit the store. Now, the goth icons are back in the studio making dark and gloomy anthems for an album which frontman Robert Smith promises will be “really f***ing great”.
“So for the first time in 20 years, we went into a studio — we actually went into the studio where they did “Bohemian Rhapsody,” funnily enough,” Smith told Rolling Stone. “It’s a great studio in the middle of nowhere. We just played music for three weeks. And it’s great. I know everyone says that. But it really is f***ing great.”
The goth legend continued: “It’s so dark. It’s incredibly intense. And I’ve waited 10 years to do something that means something. It’s going to work really well. I’m not sure how much of it we’ll play this summer at festivals. It’s not really festival music. The songs are like 10 minutes, 12 minutes long.
“We recorded 19 songs. So I have no idea what to do now. The others are saying, “Triple album!” I’m saying, no let’s not. I’ll pick six or maybe eight songs and do like a single album. But I think it will delight our hardcore fans. And probably really, really infuriate everyone else.”
He added: “At my age, I’m still doom and gloom.”
More details on the upcoming album are yet to be announced.

]]>“Seeing all these new bands—I’ve listened to some of these bands and met so many of them that it’s kind of inspired me to do something new” said Smith. “So, yes, we’re going in about six weeks time to finish off what will be our first album in more than a decade. It’s very exciting times for us all around.”

The Cure released 13 albums so far, but the most recent, 4:13 Dream, came in 2008. They haven’t released any new music since then.
Earlier this year, The Cure announced a celebratory tour in 2019 during which they will visit some of the most notable European music festivals, while also aiming to play in cities and countries they didn’t have a chance to play before. Besides this, next year will be special for the band since they will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of 2019 class of inductees that also has Radiohead, Janet Jackson, Def Leppard and others.
