The Antlers’ frontman Peter Silberman has revealed that the band are working on new music for the first time in five years.

The New York duo have released no new music since 2014’s Familiars. Now, Silberman has revealed to NME that The Antlers are working on new music which they plan to wrap up after they return from their tour.

“Before we’d been gearing up for these shows, Michael [Lerner – drummer] and I had been in the midst of working on a new record – a new Antlers record – and I put it on the backburner for a minute while we get ready to go on tour,” Silberman said. “We’re gonna be wrapping up these shows in the spring, and then get back to the record.”

He continued: “It’s been really nice to be working with [Lerner] again, and just be thinking about what an Antlers record means in 2019, 2020, 2021. It was one thing, and it becomes another – the more we imagine how it changes, while holding onto its identity at the same time, the more room there is for growth.”

The Antlers will next play at The Beverly Lounge in Kingston, NY on March 17.

Can you believe that The Antlers’ acclaimed concept album Hospice is already 10 years old? While you might not have been paying attention, American indie rockers certainly have, and they decided to celebrate their third studio album’s “birthday” in a really special way.

The Antlers recently announced that they will reissue Hospice on vinyl in March 2019. The release will be pressed on double white vinyl and will contain deluxe artwork and packaging courtesy of the album’s original artist, Zan Goodman.

The band will then embark on a tour across North American and Europe, which will see them playing Hospice in full at small venues in an intimate and acoustic atmosphere.  Frontman Peter Silberman and drummer Michael Lerner will perform the shows with the help of “some old friends and guests,” while the band’s longtime multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer Darby Cicci won’t be part of these shows.

“We’re truly looking forward to revisiting these old songs in a new light and seeing your friendly faces again. Your patience and support means so much,” The Antlers finished their announcement.

The Antlers recorded Hospice in the summer of 2008, and began self-distributing the release in March 2009 before the album was re-released by Frenchkiss Records several months later. All the songs on the record are connected, telling the story about a romance between a hospice worker and a woman suffering from terminal bone cancer.

Hospice ended up becoming the band’s most notable album, receiving critical acclaim and finding its way on “the best albums” lists for 2009.
