]]> Jack Black and Kyle Gass found some time in their busy schedules to record a new Tenacious D song. The duo shared the single “Video Games,” which is their first piece of new music in five years.

The song is short and sweet, clocking at just over a minute, and comes with an animated music video directed by Adam Paloian and Chris “Oney” O’Neill. It tells the story of a person who claims they don’t play video games anymore but actually does it a lot.

“It’s about growing up and leaving childish things behind… but then realizing that video games are more than just mindless toys,” said the band in a press release. “In fact, they can be a true expression of huge ideas that belong in the pantheon of great works of art! “

Tenacious D hasn’t released any original music since their fourth studio album Post-Apocalypto, which came out in 2018. The band did, however, present a series of covers in recent years, including their version of “Time Warp” from the 1973’s musical The Rocky Horror Show.

Black and Gass are currently wrapping up the Tenacious D U.S. tour, after which they are set to play a series of festivals and solo shows in Europe.
