The organizers of Download Festival are hoping next summer will be much more favorable for live music, which is why they prepared a mouth-watering lineup for the 2021 edition of the festival.

The three-day event is scheduled to kick off on June 4th with American legends Kiss serving as headliners. Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro will headline the next day, and heavy metal icons System Of A Down are closing the festival.

Kiss and System Of A Down were billed to headline the 2020 Download Festival before it was canceled due to coronavirus pandemic while Biffy Clyro stepped in for Iron Maiden, who was this year’s third headliner.

“We’re disappointed we weren’t able to make it over this year, but we’re looking forward to next,” said SOAD bassist Shavo Odadjian. “Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Mostly, we all just want to make sure everyone is provided with a safe and secure environment, so we were prepared to wait as long as we needed to.”

According to the official press release, next year’s lineup will host more than 70 bands. The lineup includes a variety of guitar music, from alternative rock and indie to metal, and features bands like Deftones, Korn, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Volbeat, Rise Against, Black Veil Brides, Gojira, A Day To Remember, Mastodon, and many others.

We may as well stop hoping for a new album of System of a Down. According to the group’s drummer John Dolmayan, the chances of this happening are “very unlikely.”

System of a Down released their last studio album Hypnotize, back in 2005. Since then, the band has been touring the world from time to time but failed to debut any new music. They reportedly had sessions in the studio, but couldn’t make it fruitful due to creative differences.

Dolmayan recently talked about the process with Let There Be Talk podcast and delivered some bad news.

“I find it very unlikely. I’m not even sure I wanna do it anymore,” said Dolmayan. “It’s just so much drama. In a lot of ways, I’m just over it.”

Dolmayan also addressed the rumors that guitarist Daron Malakian and vocalist Serj Tankian are the ones who are holding things up.

“It’s not just Daron and Serj. It takes four people to make this band, and it takes four people to unmake it,” he added. “I think that we’re all to blame. I could just blame Daron and Serj, because, quite frankly, they’re the primary songwriters, so it’s easy to.”

You can check out Dolmayan’s appearance on Let There Be Talk in full below.

Shortly after releasing Hypnotize, System of a Down went on hiatus that lasted until 2010. Since then, the group occasionally reunited for live shows and tours with the latest one scheduled for the summer of 2020.

System of a Down have been bringing us metal since ’94 but haven’t released anything since 2005. Hypnotize and Mesmerize was the double album fans wanted and it was a hit among the critics. Since then though, we’ve heard nothing.

Now, Daron Malakin has offered an update on the chances of us receiving new music from then in the near future. Unfortunately, the odds aren’t looking so good.

Speaking with Consequences of Sound, Malakin admitted “I don’t see that happening anytime soon” on the subject of new music.

“There was a time that I was waiting and rooting for it and hoping it happens, but … I’m kinda really happy with what I’m doing with [Scars on Broadway, his other band],” said Malakian.

“We all get along as friends in System of a Down. So as friends, everything is cool and I have no problems with anybody. But then as band members, we tend to have different ways of wanting to do things. And it doesn’t seem like we meet eye to eye as band members.

“So, I never say never because you never know what happens. But at the same time, I don’t see that happening anytime soon that we’re all going to get together and make a new System of a Down album.”

System of a Down have finally explained why they haven’t made any new music in 13 years.

The band are extremely popular in the heavy metal scene and produced 5 studio albums during their time together. Despite their success, the band have not released any new music since 2005. The band members have finally revealed why.

“Serj was never really a heavy metal or a rock guy,” Daron Malakian said to Kerrang! via Revolver. “I don’t know if he has the same love for this kind of music as I do. I’m the kid that grew up with Slayer and Kiss on my walls … Serj didn’t grow up feeling that way. He didn’t grow up a diehard fan.

“So I feel like the whole experience of becoming the lead singer in a hugely successful band was different for him than my experience was for me. To be honest with you, Serj didn’t even want to make Mezmerize and Hypnotize.”

Frontman Serj Tankian replied Thursday night to the accusation over Facebook.

“It is true that I and only I was responsible for the hiatus SOAD took in 2006,” he wrote. “Everyone else wanted to continue at the same pace to tour and make records. I didn’t. Why? For numerous reasons.”

Tankian then proceeded to list these reasons, which including the feeling that the music the band was making was starting to sound redundant and repetitive. He also expressed not feeling connected to the music on Mexmerize and Hypnotize and monetary disagreements.

“My only regret is that we have been collectively unable to give you another SOAD record,” Tankian wrote. “For that I apologize.”

System of a Down is back! They didn’t announce new album like we hoped for, but they will tour the United States for the first time since the 2015 Wake Up the Souls tour. The band’s most recent touring effort saw them playing live dates in Europe in 2017.

System of a Down will start their U.S. mini-tour on October 13th in San Bernardino, where they will play with Incubus backed by At The Drive-In, Clutch, Pallbearer and Skeletonwitch. Then they’ll head to Sacramento next day to play on Aftershock Festival, before shows in Phoenix, San Diego, and Las Vegas on which At The Drive-In and Skeletonwitch will serve as opening acts.

System of a Down released their last studio album in 2005, before taking a four-year-long hiatus in 2006. The band reunited in 2011 and embarked on a worldwide tour. The band has been touring ever since, but despite that, there haven’t been any indications of a new record being in the works.

System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian recently talked with the Rolling Stone magazine and said that while the band members discussed making a “possible record,” there hasn’t been anything concrete. Still, according to Tankian, that doesn’t mean there is something wrong within the band.

“That’s the funny thing,” Tankian said. “When people don’t see a record, they assume the worst about your internal relationship. But the truth is we’re actually better friends – at least I’m better friends with everyone than I’ve ever been. John’s my brother-in-law; he’s in my family. We have a great time together touring. But sometimes putting together a record, and that creative output and how things should be done, is different in four people’s heads and it doesn’t always come together. Fortunate or unfortunate, however you want to call it, that’s the truth. But touring is easy, because you’ve done all these songs. You have fun, you go out and tour, and that’s it.”
