]]>The limited edition 30th anniversary reissue will be released on July 7, and it will include a couple of treats for the band’s most devoted fans. The album comes in a newly mixed and mastered format, remastered by Phil Kinrade, who used the original tapes and production masters to improve the sound.
The band members confirmed the album’s release in an official statement, and frontman Brett Anderson reflected on the legacy of their debut LP.
“It was a genuinely magical time in my life and one for which I’ll always be grateful. It felt incredible being in what I thought was quite probably the most exciting band in the world at the time, making a record which felt like more than just another band making another album,” said Anderson in a statement.
Upon its release in 1993, Suede debuted atop the UK Albums Chart and led to the emergence of Britpop during the 90s. It sold over 100,000 copies in the UK and produced hit singles “The Drowners”, “Metal Mickey”, and “Animal Nitrate”.

]]>Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders explained the event in a press release: “We are delighted to be playing this unexpected end of the year show with Suede in aid of our dear pal John Brandham, most trusted friend and deluxe crew member.
“John suffered a medical setback recently and will, therefore, be sadly missed during our 2020 tours – but to see him through in the mean-time, we’re doing the mother of all benefits. Should be a great night!”
Suede’s Brett Anderson has mentioned Brandham in his memoir, Afternoon With The Blinds Drawn, which came out recently. He described Brandham as “the perfect person with whom to spend long journeys; he is kind and respectful and very funny, possessing a bone-dry, self-deprecating Tottenham fan’s wit and the flattened, drawling vowels of a broad Estuary accent.”
We wish Brandham a quick recovery, and many more tours and long journeys to come!

]]>The track starts with an almost horror-like scene in which two people are calling each other. The voices are getting louder until they get cut out abruptly. While your imagination starts running wild and creates scenarios about what happened, Richard Oakes joins in and you can immediately recognize his squeaky guitar leading the way. But it’s Brett Anderson who dominates “Don’t Be Afraid If Nobody Loves You” with his silky voice. It looks like this man’s vocals just keep on getting better and better over time.
The lyrics of the song are in the line with the topics Anderson likes to write about. Love, hate, optimism, pessimism and everything in-between mashed up together and always giving new meanings to the verses with each loop. The song is also full of lines that contradict each other but just stick in your head. “I’ll take you to where no one goes/But no one ever leaves,” Brett Anderson sings and leaves you both amazed and puzzled.
The things that make this song good are unfortunately the same things that make them underwhelming. “Don’t Be Afraid If Nobody Loves You” is just too much Suede. Everything sounds familiar, from the guitars and drums to the lyrics. If someone hears it on the radio for the first time, they could easily think it is one of the B-sides from their 2016 album Night Thoughts.
Although “Don’t Be Afraid If Nobody Loves You” has everything you love about Suede, it isn’t enough to get you excited for their new album. And that is something a single is supposed to do.
