]]> Merriam-Webster has just added 640 new words to its dictionary, and one of them just happens to be inspired by Eminem’s smash hit from 2000. If you can’t guess which song we’re talking about, let’s just say we stan their choice.

The word “stan” has been added in both verb and noun form, and Merriam-Webster Dictionary cited Eminem’s track “Stan” as it source. This iconic song focused on Eminem’s biggest fan, whose obsession with his favorite rapper takes a dangerous turn.

The word “stan” went on to become a popular slang term over the years, and it’s often used to describe overly obsessed die-hard fans. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defined this word in two different ways:

noun – an extremely or excessively enthusiastic and devoted fan.
verb – to exhibit fandom to an extreme excessive degree.

Merriam-Webster isn’t the first dictionary to embrace this term. “Stan” was also added to Oxford English Dictionary back in 2017.
