Spoon will have to look for a new bass player. Rob Pope, who played the bass for the group in the past 13 years, decided to leave the band announcing his decision on social media.

According to Pope, the reason for this decision is that he wants to spend more time with his family and work on other projects.

“As Spoon’s bass player since 2006, I’ve never taken for granted the thrills and challenges that have come with being in this band,” – Pope wrote on Instagram. “Now, after some serious thought, the timing feels right for me to leave Spoon in order to spend more time with family and personal projects.”

Pope also said that his future plans include working on new music with his original band The Get Up Kids.

“I’ll continue to work on new music, including touring and recording with ‪The Get Up Kids, but I’ll always be particularly proud of the amazing things Spoon accomplished over nearly 13 years of my involvement (and sometimes in spite of it).” – he added.

Rob Pope joined Spoon in 2006 following the departure of Josh Zarbo. He took part in recording the band’s last four studio albums: Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, Transference, They Want My Soul and Hot Thoughts.

Pope’s decision comes in a bad time for Spoon, as the band is currently getting ready to embark on a U.S. tour with Beck and Cage the Elephant. The tour will kick off on July 11th in Ridgefield and will see the trio playing shows in all the nation’s bigger cities like Phoenix, Chicago, and New York before wrapping up on August 30th in West Palm Beach.
