The album was confirmed back in late 2020 when frontman Billy Corgan described the projects as “rock opera.”
“We feel like in many ways this completes the circle on everything we started and weren’t able to finish at that time, so we’re very excited about [it],” he said in a YouTube video at the time.
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was released as a double LP and served as Smashing Pumpkins’ third studio effort. The release debuted on the U.S. Billboard 200 at no. 1 while also being receiving critical acclaim from the critics. It got the group seven nominations at the 39th Grammys and a Grammy Award in Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal category for “Bullet with Butterfly Wings.”
Machina, on the other hand, wasn’t as successful and was met with just favorable reviews and modest commercial success. Despite this, the album, which marked the return of drummer Jimmy Chamberlin to the group, has somewhat of a cult status among the Smashing Pumpkins fans.

Guns N’ Roses recently announced that they will be embarking on a worldwide stadium tour in the summer. Besides North America, Axl Rose, Slash, and co. will play dates in Europe including Hamburg, Vienna, Florence, and Prague.
Smashing Pumpkins are believed to work on their new record. The group’s frontman Billy Corgan said in a recent interview that he is already writing new songs. According to Corgan, there are 21 songs that are in the mix for the upcoming release. In the meantime, the band will play a handful of dates in North America.

]]>Smashing Pumpkins reunited in their founding lineup back in 2018, releasing a new album Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. and embarking on a world tour. It appears that Corgan, who in the meantime released solo album Cotillions, immediately got to work on new music after the tour wrapped up.
“It’s currently 21 songs,” Corgan said. “I’ve been working on it for over a year. It’s pretty different – in a good way, I think. Everybody that’s heard it likes it a lot, so that’s a good sign.”
Corgan also revealed that he and the band will also do “some touring” in 2020.
“We’re gonna do some touring. We’re playing a big festival in Atlanta, I think in April or May: Shaky Knees. I’m not sure we’re playing Nashville this year. Actually, I think we might. I might be giving a secret away. We might be doing a little ‘surprisey’ gig soon,” he added.
Smashing Pumpkins will probably look to redeem themselves on the new record, as their 2018’s release wasn’t as successful as they hoped. The record received generally positive reviews from the critics but ended up being a commercial failure. It only reached No.54 on US Billboard 200, marking the band’s worst chart performance since their debut record Gish.

]]>Although the comics may seem like a sidestep away from Way’s music career, the My Chemical Romance star has revealed that music, in fact, played a very important part in his creation of the comics.
Speaking with NME, he explained that the music he was obsessively listening to during the writing process had shaped the “feel” of the comics.
“When I wrote the first book, I was listening obsessively to Teenage Fanclub, the Pixies and Smashing Pumpkins, and I think the influence of those records – and the feel of those records – are in the comics,” he explained. “With the TV show, I didn’t have a lot of input – Steve came to it with a pretty clear idea of the music he wanted to use. When he writes scripts, he includes songs as he goes, a bit like [Guardians Of The Galaxy director] James Gunn does.”
He continued: “Moving forward though, if we get a second season, I’ve said to Steve that I’d really like to get involved more there. I’m of the mind that when you have a big captive audience, you can introduce them to more left-of-center stuff. I’d always pick a song by a band like Wire or Gang Of Four over the sort of stuff Steve does, although I think he’s incredible at using songs you’ve heard before in really interesting ways.”

“She’s thinking about joining, but she’s busy with her farm and the animals so that’s her first priority.” – they added while noting that they are scheduled to enter the studio again in May.
D’arcy Wretzky was one of the founding members of Smashing Pumpkins and played on the band’s first five studio albums. She decided to leave the band in 1999 in order to pursue an acting career but ended up disappearing from the spotlight altogether.
When it was made public that she won’t be part of the Smashing Pumpkins recent reunion, Wretzky said that she was offered a contract from frontman Billy Corgan to rejoin the band, but the offer was quickly withdrawn. Corgan on the other side claimed that she refused to be a part of the reunion.

Chamberlin has opened up to NME in an interview about the band’s dynamic since the reunion. He revealed that it’s been incredibly successful and that the band is finally aligned musically in every way.
“Absolutely. Everybody has taken this journey in their own unique way. We all have kids, families, and the shared goals to raise our kids in a positive environment. Those kinds of relationships add to the accumulative holistic value of all of that,” he admitted.
He continued: “For the first time, the band is in alignment in every way: musically, socially and familially. The band has come together in a way that’s compassionate. There’s a lot of compassion, grace, and appreciation for one another.”
Their latest album, Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun, which is a product of this new, holistic relationship, is due for release on November 16.

The “1979” house party will allow fans to relive the 1996 hit song and will take place in Los Angeles on June 28th. Fans will also have a chance to win a Yamaha guitar as well as a two-night stay at The Hilton, which includes return flights to Los Angeles.
This week, the band’s frontman Billy Corgan compared the 90’s grunge scene to a high school popularity contest.
“If everybody is sort of branded with the same brush, okay we can live that,” he said. “But you know, you’d see some people would be exalted and their sins were forgivable.
“It really reminded me of high school, which I didn’t like. So now I’m in the bigger high school and now we’re playing with millions of dollars and millions of people, and it’s just like a popularity contest. And it brought out maybe the worst or the best in my personality, which was like, ‘I’m gonna take this on and I’m gonna use myself as the battering ram so I’m gonna make it about me, knowing it’s not about me.’”

]]>According to Corgan, the band already finished recording eight tracks for the album on which they worked with legendary producer Rick Rubin. Although this will be the first album to feature the Smashing Pumpkins’ classic line-up (or most of it) since 2000’s Machina, the process of making songs didn’t change.
“In this case, it came really quickly,” Corgan said to Ulrichs. “We did 16 demos in three weeks, and then I played Rick what I thought were the eight best songs, hoping he would pick one, and he picked all eight… We were standing there like, our eyes are blinking. We thought we were just going to do a single.”
In February 2018, Smashing Pumpkins announced that founding members – guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin – rejoined the band and will embark on a Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour in July 2018. Still, the band’s original line-up wasn’t brought back together in full, since bassist D’arcy Wretzky won’t be part of the reunion. Jack Bates, the son of New Order’s Peter Hook, will play bass on the tour.
Speaking with Ulrich, Billy Corgan revealed that he hasn’t been in the same room as Wretzky for 19 years, and although he tried to repair his relationship with her, it didn’t work.
“I spent two years before all that repairing my relationship, and every time I tried to get into a room with her — so, I still haven’t been in a room with her in 19 years,” he explained. “It was a telephone thing and you’re trying to say, ‘This can happen, this can happen, what do you think?’ Always very pleasant, great, awesome, and only when it became obvious that it wasn’t the way she wanted it to be, it turned into this other thing that was reminiscent of the past.”
D’arcy Wretzky previously stated that she was offered to be a part of the tour briefly, but that Corgan decided to pull the offer and hired Bates before she had the time to respond.

Smashing Pumpkins formed in 1988, with a line-up consisting of Billy Corgan (lead vocals and guitar), James Iha (guitar), Jimmy Chamberlin (drums), and D’arcy Wretzky (bass guitar). After six studio albums together, the band decided to disband in 2000. After six years, Billy Corgan decided to reform the band with Chamberlin, while Iha and Wretzky denied the opportunity. In 2009, Jimmy Chamberlin leaves the band, with Corgan remaining as the only founding member.
The first reports about the original line-up reunion came in August 2016, when Billy Corgan revealed that he has reached out to others to see if they were interested to participate in the reunion. Then on February 15, 2018, it was officially announced that James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin are returning to the band’s line-up and that Smashing Pumpkins will embark on a tour.
There are conflicting reports about the reasons why D’arcy Wretzky won’t join in. According to Corgan, she was invited but rejected the offer. Wretzky, on the other hand, says that Corgan offered her a contract but swiftly pulled back the offer, since he already hired a new bassist.
