]]>Back in 2018, Sting did an interview on the radio show The Breakfast Club and was at one point asked by host Charlamagne Tha God whether the rumor about Diddy paying him $2,000 a day for sampling “Every Breath You Take” is true.
“Yep, for the rest of his life,” responded Sting.
Sting went on to clarify that Diddy used the sample without permission at first but that the two “are very good friends now.”
The video of Sting’s appearance on The Breakfast Club recently started trending on social media and apparently caught Diddy’s attention. The Bad Boy Records founder retweeted the video and used the opportunity to set the record straight.
“Nope. 5K a day. Love to my brother,” wrote Diddy.
“Every Breath You Take” is arguably The Police’s best-known track and their biggest hit. The song, taken from 1983’s Synchronicity album, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for eight weeks while willing two Grammy awards.
Diddy recorded “I’ll Be Missing You” in honor of late rapper The Notorious B.I.G, a couple of months after his death. It spent eleven weeks atop the US Billboard Hot 100 while winning Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. The track features singer Faith Evans and R&B group 112.

]]>The most recent edition of Rolling Stone’s Musicians On Musicians saw DJ Khaled and Combs interview each other and discuss their careers and views on the music industry. At one point, Diddy was asked what does he “look for” when he is signing a new artist.
“To be honest, I’ve been in semi-retirement,” shared Diddy. “If you don’t see my name on all the Top 10 records, that means I’m not making music.”
According to Diddy, he is wondering whether there is a role for him in music at the moment. “I’m contemplating, Is there a role for me in music now?” I just know that for me, I would only be able to sign legends. To be honest, my decisions will be made through God. I’m at another frequency and level of music.”
Sean Combs’ most recent solo studio effort was 2006’s Press Play. After that, he worked on several collaboration albums while also releasing a handful of singles.
Back in 2015, Combs announced that he is working on his new studio album, titled No Way Out 2, which was supposed to serve as a sequel to his debut record from 1997. He also said that this would be his last album before retiring from music.
In 2015, Diddy presented “Finna Get Loose,” featuring Pharrell Williams, which was the first single from the album. There were no new details about the release since then, and the status of the record remains unclear.
