]]>The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced the 2023 class of inductees via a video featuring iconic rapper and producer LL Cool J. The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 3 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
As part of the festivities, singer Chaka Khan, songwriter Al Kooper, and Bernie Taupin, longtime songwriting collaborator of Elton John, will be recognized with Musical Excellence Award. Influential hip-hop DJ Kool Herc and guitarist Link Wray are set to receive Musical Influence Award, while producer Don Cornelius, the creator of the legendary music show Soul Train, will be honored with Ahmet Ertegun Award.
Crow, Michael, Elliott, and Nelson received the green light from Rock Hall voters in their first nomination. Bush and the Spinners are in the following four nominations, while RATM was successful after five tries.
The list of music acts that didn’t make the cut in 2023 consists of rap group A Tribe Called Quest, singer Cyndi Lauper, heavy metal legends Iron Maiden, British rock bands Joy Division and New Order, grunge band Soundgarden, singer/songwriter Warren Zevon, and alternative rockers White Stripes.

]]>According to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s official rules, an artist or a band is eligible for a nomination at least 25 years after their first commercial recording.
In addition to the previously mentioned artists, the list of this year’s nominees also includes Mary J. Blige, Kate Bush, Devo, The Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, Chaka Khan, Fela Kuti, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine, Todd Rundgren, Dionne Warwick, and Carole King.
Seven out of 16 nominees made the cut for the first time, and the chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, John Sykes, believes they left a significant impact on the music industry.
“This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates. These nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world and influenced countless artists that have followed them,” said Sykes in a press release.
Inductees will be announced in May, with the official Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony taking place in Cleveland, Ohio this fall.
