Metallica embarked on the M72 World Tour earlier this year, and their recent concerts were full of surprises. They kept the fans guessing after significantly tweaking their setlist, and the bassist Robert Trujillo recently revealed why they decided to go down this road.

Metallica’s latest tour saw them perform two dates with completely different setlists in almost every city, and that wasn’t a coincidence. Trujillo recently revealed they noticed that the opening minutes of their concerts weren’t impactfully enough, so they needed to introduce a few tweaks to the setlist.

“Initially, we thought it would be really clever and exciting to open the show with an instrumental… We found that an instrumental is very powerful for the set but it sits much better in the middle of a set, it’s a chance for the fan to absorb and embrace the song,” Trujillo told Classic Rock.

They opted to open the shows with instrumentals such as “Orion” and “The Call of Ktulu” before moving on to more electrifying songs because they didn’t want to come out with “something that kind of smacks you in the face”, according to Trujillo.

This strategy certainly worked, and they’ll get to chance to experiment with the setlist again once they go back to touring this spring.

Rock band Suspect208, which featured sons of Guns N’Roses guitarist Slash (Saul Hudson), late Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland, and Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, ended its short-lived career. The news was confirmed by the group’s guitarist Niko Tsangaris in a recent chat with Wall of Sound.

Suspect208 was formed in 2021 by Noah Weiland on vocals, Tye Trujillo on bass, London Hudson on drums, and Tsangaris on guitar. The band released a series of singles before Weiland exited the project in early 2021 due to “creative differences” with the rest of the group. Cody Houston stepped as a vocalist shortly after.

According to Tsangaris, Trujillo recently also decided to leave Suspect208, followed by Houston. At this point, the remaining band members decided it was time to call it quits.

“We didn’t want to keep dividing up our fan base by getting new people,” said Tsangaris while adding that he and Hudson already started a new band called S8NT ELEKTRIC.

While Suspect208 received significant attention mostly due to their links with famous bands, the group also had an intriguing sound that showed promise and was compared to Velvet Revolver. Altogether, they released four singles during their brief time together: “All Black,” “Nicotine,” “Long Awaited,” and “You Got It.”
