With Thom York releasing solo projects, it’s a good time to look back at Radiohead’s albums. The British band has produced nine albums, many of which are critically acclaimed. Here is the definitive list of every Radiohead album ranked from worst to best. Do you agree?

9. Pablo Honey:

Back when Radiohead sounded like a wannabe Pixies, they made this extremely average rock album which they have collectively neglected to play or talk about since.

8. Hail to the Thief:

Hail to the Thief doesn’t have many memorable tracks and sounds a little lost in what it’s trying to be. It’s essentially a weird political album that is musically impressive but missed the mark in places.

7. Amnesiac:

“Pyramid Song” raises this album above The Bends but otherwise, it just doesn’t quite live up to Kid A.

6. King of Limbs:

King of Limbs is the band’s shortest album but contains some of their most creative and beautiful sounds.

5. The Bends:

The band’s second album has some fantastic tracks (i.e. “High and Dry” and “Fake Plastic Trees”) but it has some weaker tracks in the middle that let the album down as a whole.

4. A Moon Shaped Pool:

The most recent album is daringly heartfelt and contains an eclectic range of Radiohead’s previous musical achievements.

3. Kid A:

Kid A marks the start of Radiohead’s experimental phase. Thom Yorke decided that he was ‘bored of playing guitar’ and started playing with strange keyboard sounds instead. The result is amazing though.

2. In Rainbows:

The only Radiohead album that could almost pass for happy. The album revives the band’s rock roots with their experimental phase to create musical divinity.

1. Ok Computer:

Unanimously one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Radiohead has produced many masterpieces since, but few would argue that OK Computer is utter perfection and to many fans, this will always be Radiohead at its peak.

Radiohead recently decided to reach into their archive and share some concert footage with the fans to help them stay entertained during coronavirus pandemic. The band announced that they are launching a weekly series during which they will stream a number of their past live shows on YouTube.

The footage will be taken from Radiohead Public Library, a new streaming service that contains the group’s albums, B-sides, unreleased tracks, behind-the-scenes photos, promotional performances, concerts, and much more.

“Now that you have no choice whether or not you fancy a quiet night in, may we draw your attention to these entertainments?”-  Radiohead wrote in their fan newsletter about the project.

According to the band, they will continue sharing content until they run out of material or the ongoing health crisis calms down.

“We will be releasing one a week until either the restrictions resulting from current situation are eased, or we run out of shows. Which will be first? No-one knows,” they added.

The first show that the band uploaded on YouTube is the “Live from a Tent in Dublin,” which took place in 2000. Radiohead played 23 tracks, many of which came from Kid A album that was released several days prior. The setlist also contains some gems, including rare live performances of “Motion Picture Soundtrack” and “Bullet Proof…I Wish I Was.”

You can watch the show in full below.

Radiohead fans, we have some bad news. According to the band’s drummer Philip Selway, the group will take a break from music in 2020. This will allow the group members to focus more on side projects.

Selway revealed the news in a recent chat with NME. “There are always conversations going on, but we’ve always got other projects going on,” said Selway. “This is kind of the year away from Radiohead, but we will pick that up again.”

Selway, however, didn’t want to commit to saying that Radiohead will engage in new projects next year.

“We’ll see. We’re talking,” he added on the topic.

Radiohead’s last studio release came in 2016 when they released critically acclaimed A Moon Shaped Pool. Although the band hasn’t released any new music since then, they did treat their fans to some surprises.

Back in the summer of 2019, the group decided to unveil an 18 hours-long recording session for their seminal album OK Computer, while they also recently uploaded their entire discography to YouTube.

Last year also saw Radiohead’s frontman Thom Yorke releasing Anima, his third solo effort. Although the record wasn’t a commercial success, it did receive rave reviews from critics.

Jonny Greenwood is the Guitarist of Radiohead, but he is also an acclaimed film composer. Now, Greenwood announces his new label, Octatonic Records, which will focus on contemporary classical music.

“Since doing my first soundtrack [2003’s Bodysong], I’ve become friends with lots of these remarkable musicians, as well as more familiar with the music they play. It’s a whole world out there,” wrote Greenwood in his announcement on the label’s site.

Greenwood continued: “I stand in awe of classically trained UK musicians: a 20-something carrying a cello case will always be more impressive than someone with a guitar. It’s just harder to do. It takes more commitment, and the sounds they make are so limitless — for all that the instruments they play are ‘traditional.’”

Greenwood said he will only record soloists or small groups of musicians. “And as it’s my party, including in the releases some of my own small ideas that have never been recorded, like 88 (for solo piano), and Miniatures from Water for piano, violin, string drone, and tanpura.”The label has actually released some titles by now, including Bach’s Volume: 1: Partita No.2 in D Minor on vinyl and digital, as well as Volume 2: Industry, Water, the latter consists of Greenwood’s “Three Miniatures From Water” on one side and composer Michael Gordon’s “Industry” on the other.

Thom Yorke has revealed that he was once asked to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.

Radiohead has gained a reputation over the years for making music to wallow to. Their sound is often described as “depressing” although we prefer to use terms like “profound” and “haunting”.

When King of Limbs was released back in 2011, Yorke claimed he wanted to make music “people could dance to”. In the music video for “Lotus Flower,” he busted out his best moves and became the subject of many memes.

Speaking with BBC 6 Music, Shaun Keaveny asked him if he would ever do Strictly or I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!. Yorke then revealed that he had already been asked.

“Oh Strictly,” he exclaimed. “I think they asked me once in the early days of the program. I was like ‘you what’? I’m pretty sure I got the call from the office one day.”

To clarify, Strictly first aired back in 2004. This was a few years after Radiohead released Kid A and Amnesiac. Why Strictly reached out to Yorke at this point is beyond us.

Anyway, here’s a throwback to Yorke busting a move to “Lotus Flower”. Enjoy.

Radiohead are considered to be one of the best bands of their generation. OK Computer remains one of the best rock albums ever made and decades after its release, the band are still pushing boundaries and experimenting with new styles and ideas.

These days, the band are very much focused on their solo projects. Johnny Greenwood is an established film composer and Thom Yorke recently took his own hand to composition for the chilling Suspiria score. Although the band are occupied with their solo projects, this does not mean that Radiohead are over.

Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, the frontman shared information on his new album and also opened up about the band.

When asked about the process of creating music with Radiohead, Yorke said: “When I’m rooting around ideas and stuff, I don’t really…it’s like a child playing with LEGO.

“I used to, at least, play a bunch of chords, mumble over the top, send them round to the guys and then they’d find things in them and say, ‘That’s good, that’s good, can we work on that?’ Only at that point do I feel I have their permission to connect with it in a different way. Then I can like pick up the mic if someone else has got the music around it, in its most basic form.”

Thom Yorke’s upcoming solo album ANIMA is out now.

After hackers recently Leaked sessions from Radiohead’s seminal album OK Computer, the band took a rather surprising approach. Instead of hunting down the hackers, Radiohead released all 18 hours of the sessions on Bandcamp.

Fans can buy the entire thing for $23, with all the proceeds going to climate activist group Extinction Rebellion. The recording will be available for 18 days before being taken down.

“We got hacked last week – someone stole Thom’s minidisk archive from around the time of OK Computer, and reportedly demanded $150,000 on threat of releasing it,” said Radiohead’s guitarist Jonny Greenwood in a statement. “So instead of complaining – much – or ignoring it, we’re releasing all 18 hours on Bandcamp in aid of Extinction Rebellion. Just for the next 18 days. So for £18, you can find out if we should have paid that ransom.”

“Never intended for public consumption (though some clips did reach the cassette in the OK Computer reissue) it’s only tangentially interesting. And very, very long. Not a phone download. Rainy out, isn’t it though?” he added.

According to fan-made “map” of the previously leaked sessions, the recording contains early studio versions of the OK Computer tracks, live recordings, unreleased songs, and other unstructured material. Some of the highlights of this release include previously unreleased version of “Lift,” unfinished recording of “Last Flowers,” and alternate versions of “Nude” and “True Love Waits.”

Thom Yorke will debut his classical composition “Don’t Fear The Light” for the first time this weekend.

The incredibly talented musician will share his composition using two pianos along with a modular synthesizer. The performance will air on April 28 on BBC Radio 3’s Unclassified.

During the show, Yorke will play some of his other pieces including work he did for the Suspirium soundtrack. Here is the full programme:

David Chalmin: Particule no 5 – Particule no 6 – (feat Thom Yorke vocals)
Bryce Dessner: Haven
Thom Yorke: Don’t Fear the Light
Thom Yorke: Gawpers
Thom Yorke: Suspirium
Thom Yorke (vocals, electronics, and modular synthesizer)
Katia & Marielle Labeque (piano)
Bryce Dessner (guitar)
David Chalmin (guitar)

“Katia and Marielle suggested for a few years that I write some music for them,” the Radiohead frontman explained to Unclassified. “Usually I would laugh and explain that I couldn’t read music, but in truth, I was intrigued by the idea.

“I realized writing for score or on a sequencer and modular gear are really not so far apart but the best part for me was watching the basics of what I’d written being brought to life by the sisters and their interpretation, making the notes theirs.”

Tune in on Sunday (April 28) to hear the full program.

Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien opens up about his love of nature and reveals how that love influenced OK Computer.

BBC 6Music’s Shaun Keaveny hosted a panel on the “musicality of nature” and the Radiohead bassist was one of the special guests. It is quite clear from King of Limbs and Moon Shaped Pool that the band are inspired by the natural world, but O’Brien reveals that the inspiration has been there from the start.

“As a musician, for me, there’s something I find completely inspiring about being in nature. It’s never really quiet,” O’Brien told the panel audience.

“The first record we made solely in the countryside was OK Computer. It was [recorded] just outside Bath in a beautiful rolling valley surrounded by woodland. Very often we’d finish at midnight and go out. I remember one night there was a deep frost and it was a full moon and the whole countryside was lit up, those are my memories of that record, I’ve got very few memories of actually being at the coal face doing the takes.”

He continued: “One of the things we always used to do if it was getting too heavy in the studio, which was 99% of the time, was go for a walk.  The city can be great, you can get inspiration from the city, but there’s something very primal and profound [about nature], it’s almost existential. What are you doing on this planet? Those are the questions you start asking.”

Ed O’Brien’s solo album will be released in October this year.

Radiohead fans are notoriously protective over the band’s amazing music. Here are five covers that no fan can dispute do justice to the originals.

High & dry, Ninet

Ninet has an incredible voice and this stripped down rendition of High and Dry is absolutely beautiful. It’s also very endearing watching her give a stunning performance with a muppet.

Exit Music (For A Film), John & Lindsey Skeye

This talented couple has shared a few Radiohead covers but this one is especially memorable. Her voice compliments the sombre tone of the song perfectly.

Paranoid Android, Various Artists

This cover is a compilation of a whole load of different Youtubers covering the song. It’s one of the greatest covers we’ve seen solely based on how remarkable the maker’s editing skills are.

Idioteque, Alexa Molo

Alexa Molo has done a few different Radiohead covers but her rendition of Idioteque is fantastic. It takes what is great about the original and then she puts her own spin on it.

No Surprises, Post Modern Jukebox

This jazzy cover plays with the original and puts it in a whole new genre. Chloe Feoranzo takes what is one of Radiohead’s saddest songs and makes it cool and sexy.
