2018 saw the release of many brilliant books from some of our favorite artists. Here are five of our favorite music books of 2018 and why we think your music-loving friends will love them too.

My Thoughts Exactly (Lily Allen)

Lilly Allen has earned herself a reputation for being brutally honest when it comes to just about anything. In her book she delves into the sex and drugs as well as her own personal life and reveals her experience working in the music industry. It’s a great read for pop lovers.

Rise Up: The #Merky Story So Far (Stormzy)

Rise Up is interesting because it does not tell the story of Stormzy as you’d expect, but tells the story of those around him. Stormzy interviews his friends and industry friends to share insight into their lives and success. It’s a very satisfying read.

The Cure: A Perfect Dream (by Ian Gittins)

Gittins reflects on the history of the longtime goth band, The Cure. The book includes stories from the band, interviews and an array of gorgeous pictures. It’s a must-have for Cure fans and wannabe goths.

Transformer (by Ezra Furman)

This year Extra Ferman delved into Lou Reed’s groundbreaking record ‘Transformer’. He explores everything from the queer history in America at the time of release to how the record might be used as a way of getting in touch with ones own identity. It’s a wonderful read.

Creative Quest (Questlove)

This fantastic book from Questlove is ideal for budding musicians who sometimes find themselves in a bit of a creative rut. The book is full of reassurance and tips on how to pull yourself out and peruse your musical ambitions at all costs.
