The post 2023 MTV VMAs: Taylor Swift Steals the Show With Wins in Nine Categories appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>Swift defeated the likes of Doja Cat’s “Attention”, Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers”, Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl”, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire”, Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy”, and SZA’s “Kill Bill” to win video of the year with “Anti-Hero”—but her hands were already full by that point.
“Anti-Hero” also won Swift awards for song of the year, best pop, best direction, best visual effects, best editing, and best cinematography. She was also crowned as artist of the year, in addition to winning the award for show of the summer and album of the year with Midnights. This brings her MTV VMAs all-time total to 23 awards, only two behind Beyoncé.
Swift was definitely the VMA’s shiniest star, but Ice Spice also had a reason to celebrate after being named the best new artist. Karol G and Shakira won best collaboration with “TQG”, while Shakira also collected the honorary Video Vanguard Award.
The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards returned to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on September 12, with Nicki Minaj serving as the ceremony’s host.

]]>The post 2023 MTV VMAs: Sean “Diddy” Combs To Recieve Global Icon Award appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>This honorary award was first introduced as a part of the MTV Europe Music Awards lineup, before making its way to the VMAs. It’s meant to celebrate “an artist or band whose unparalleled career and continued influence have achieved a unique level of global success in music and beyond”, and it was previously given to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters.
There’s no better time than now to award Diddy with this accolade because he’s currently getting ready to share a new album with the world. The Love Album: Off the Grid will mark his first solo LP since 2006, and it will hit the shelves on September 15.
Diddy is expected to perform a medley of his biggest hits at the MTV VMAs on September 12, joining previously announced performers Doja Cat, Anitta, Lil Wayne, Kelsea Ballerini, Tomorrow X Together, Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin, Stray Kids, and Shakira. He’s also in the running for four awards with songs “Creepin” (Remix) ft. Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, and 21 Savage and “Gotta Move On” ft. Bryson Tiller, Ashanti, and Yung Miami.

]]>This prestigious award is meant to celebrate the “outstanding contributions” and “profound impact” that one trailblazing artist left on the music industry and popular culture at large. Shakira perfectly encapsulates these values, according to Paramount’s president of music, Bruce Gillmer.
“Shakira is a true global force who continues to inspire and influence the masses with her unique, musical prowess. She’s a trailblazer for women around the world & one of the first artists to lead the globalization of Latin music,” said Gillmer in a statement.
2023 has been a year to remember for Shakira, largely thanks to the success of her viral, record-breaking hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”. She also dropped singles “Acróstico” and “Copa Vacía” ft. Manuel Turizo, and collaborated with Karol G on “TQG”.
The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on September 12, and Shakira is expected to perform a medley of her biggest hits. She’s the first South American artist to receive the ceremony’s highest honor, following in the footsteps of Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, and Jennifer Lopez.

Most of the same songs have also been nominated for song of the year, and Doja Cat’s “Attention” and Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” are the only songs absent from this field. They have been replaced by Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” and Rema and Selena Gomez’s viral hit “Calm Down”.

]]>This will be the second consecutive time that the VMAs are held at Prudential Center and the third time in the past five years. According to MTV, the event will air globally in 150 countries and is expected to attract more than 300 million viewers.
“Celebrating one of our biggest nights in music with the Garden State’s incredible fans has been our goal since last year’s highly successful event,” said Bruce Gillmer of MTV’s parent company Paramount.
Last year’s MTV Video Music Awards ceremony was highlighted by Taylor Swift, who broke the record for most Video of the Year awards. Swift was honored for the short-film adaptation of her tract “All Too Well,” marking her third award in the Video of the Year category.
Jack Harlow had the most successful night overall in 2022, taking home four awards, including Song of the Summer for “First Class” and Best Collaboration for Lil Nas X’s feature “Industry Baby.” Nicki Minaj was honored with Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, while Red Hot Chili Peppers received Global Icon Award.

]]>Swift was one of the night’s biggest winners with a total of three accolades, including video of the year, best longform video, and best direction. She gave Swifties another reason for celebration when she announced her next album Midnights, set to come out on October 21.
“This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face,” said Swift in the album’s official announcement.
As for the rest of the winners’ list, it was also a big night for Jack Harlow, who walked away with four awards. He won a solo trophy for song of summer with “First Class” and shared awards for best collaboration, best art direction, and best visual effects with Lil Nas X for “Industry Baby”. Harry Styles collected three accolades including album of the year for Harry’s House.
MTV Video Music Awards were held on August 28, with LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow hosting the festivities at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

]]>Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow made quite a splash with their collaboration “Industry Baby” and they’re getting credit where credit is due. This song has been nominated for two of the biggest honors of the night – video and song of the year—but that’s just the beginning!
“Industry Baby” is also in the running for best collaboration, direction, art direction, choreography, and visual effects. Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow will also be going head to head for the artist of the year award, and the list of contenders for this trophy also includes Lizzo and Harry Styles.
Unlike Lil Nas X and Harlow, Lamar isn’t in the running for any of the main awards, but he still managed to collect a total of seven nods with songs “N95”, “The Heart Part 5”, and “Family Ties” ft. Baby Keem. Doja Cat and Harry Styles are right behind with six nominations each, followed by Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd with five.

]]>The post The Most Epic Award Show Performances of 2019 appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>The Oscars isn’t exactly a music award show, but this list would be incomplete if we failed to mention this moving rendition of “Shallow” that immediately went viral.
This year’s Grammy Awards featured a series of pretty amazing moments, but none of them compares to seeing host Alicia Keys play on two pianos at once.
This list could easily consist of Lizzo’s live performances and nothing else, and no one would complain, but her amazing set at the MTV Video Music Awards made the biggest impact.
Taylor Swift received the Artist of the Decade award at this year’s AMAs and delivered an epic medley of her greatest hits that lasted over 10 minutes, and it really doesn’t get better than that.
The first live rendition of the chart-topping song “Señorita” wasn’t the most theatrical performance at MTV Video Music Awards, but it won us over with the pure emotion that the duo brought to the stage.

]]>Here are the highlights.
Lizzo rocked up on stage like a ball of sunshine and let the crowd have it with “Truth Hurts” and her 2016 hit “Good As Hell”. Her backdrop included a giant inflatable arse.
Taylor Swift performed the singles from her new album “Lover” and “You Need To Calm Down.” She opened the show and kicked things off with a fun energy.
Miley Cyrus initially turned down the chance to play at the MTV Awards only to change her mind last minute. She gave a powerful performance of her new single “Slide Away.”
At the end of the day, it was Missy Elliot who truly stole the show. She sang her big hit “Get Ur Freak On” and treated us to a rendition of her new single, “Throw It Back”. Her medley performance was a sparkly surprise and she exceeded our expectations on pretty much all accounts.

]]>The post 2023 MTV VMAs: Taylor Swift Steals the Show With Wins in Nine Categories appeared first on Hot Pop Today.

]]>The post Shakira Being Honored With Video Vanguard Award at 2023 MTV VMAs appeared first on Hot Pop Today.

The list of contenders also includes Doja Cat’s “Attention”, Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers”, Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl”, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire”, Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy”, and SZA’s “Kill Bill”.
Swift also scored nominations for best pop, best editing, best direction, best visual effects, and best cinematography with “Anti-Hero”, in addition to being nominated for artist of the year. The list of front-runners at this year’s ceremony will also include SZA with six nods, plus Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sam Smith with five each.

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards will be held on August 28 in New Jersey’s Prudential Center in Newark.
