Mother Love Bone was formed in early 1988 and quickly emerged as one of the most promising young bands in Seattle. After releasing their debut EP Shine in March 1989, the band started recording their first studio album Apple later that year with a release date set for March 1990.
A few days before the album’s official release, however, the band’s vocalist Andrew Wood died from heroin overdose. The rest of the band decided to end Mother Love Bone shortly after. Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament ended up forming Pearl Jam with Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready while Bruce Fairweather and Greg Gilmore remained active on Seattle’s music scene.
The living members of Mother Love Bone previously reunited in 2010 for the first time in 20 years playing a show at Seattle’s Showbox with Shawn Smith serving as a vocalist.
