A previously unreleased album from late jazz legend Miles Davis is finally finding its way to the fans. It was recently announced that Davis’ lost album Rubberband, recorded back in 1985, will be out on September 6th.

After signing with Warner Bros. in March 1985, Davis started working on Rubberband, which was set to be his debut release for the label. Still, he ended up deciding to abandon the record on, releasing 1986’s Tutu instead.

Rubberband remained on the shelf for more than 30 years before the title song made it to the EP of the same name, which was released as a Record Store Day exclusive last year.

The album is produced by original producers Randy Hall and Zane Giles, with Davis’ nephew, Vince Wilburn, Jr., also taking part in the process. Wilburn previously played drums during the original recording sessions.

Rubberband was set to feature vocal appearances from Al Jarreau and Chaka Khan, but since the album was abandoned, their parts were never recorded. Instead, Ledisi and Lalah Hathaway, daughter of American soul singer Donny Hathaway, provided the vocals for songs “Rubberband Of Life,” and “So Emotional” respectively.

You can hear the track “Rubberband of Life” below.
