John Cameron Mitchell and Julian Morris also make a cameo in this avant-garde music video, which hails from Ray Tintori, who shot visuals for MGMT’s biggest hits “Time to Pretend” and “Kids”.
Christine and the Queens described the process of making this video as “very rejuvenating and liberating”, adding she couldn’t wait to become a part of the MGMT universe.
“When they reached out for this power ballad, I was honored and also excited to dive into their dream, because I have the same all-encompassing approach with my work. I loved the backstory of the lyrics as well, and I work my lower register here more than usual,” said the singer in a press release.
“Dancing in Babylon” was released as the fourth single from MGMT’s upcoming fifth studio album Loss of Life, which will be released on February 23 via n Mom + Pop.

]]>MGMT also shared a music video for “Bubblegum Dog,” directed by Tom Scharpling and Julia Vickerman. According to the directors, the video pays homage to aesthetics of the music clips from the ’90s, who combined “the charming, DIY, surreal, cardboard craft aesthetic of shows like Yo Gabba Gabba and The Mighty Boosh with these ultra-serious grunge videos we grew up watching on MTV.”

Loss of Life is scheduled for release on February 23, 2024. It is MGMT’s fifth studio album and first since 2018’s Little Dark Age. The release, originally announced in September, is the duo’s debut for their new label Mom + Pop.
The new album comes with 10 tracks and features a guest appearance from French singer Christine and the Queens on “Dancing in Babylon.” This is the first-ever feature for MGMT.
The duo unveiled “Mother Nature,” the first single from Loss of Life, back in late October. The song, produced by Patrick Wimberly, met with positive reception from the critics and the audience.

]]>MGMT founders Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser said they’re over the mood about this collection of songs and feel very happy to unleash it onto the world.
“It is an album that brandishes the power of love in the face of inevitable human death and decay, and hopes to encourage collective comfort in remembering the universe’s inextinguishable yet often brutal desire to find balance and harmony. Or something,” reads the band’s official statement.
MGMT gave us a taste of things to come with the first single “Mother Nature” and said this song outlines the archetypical MGMT mythology of one hero attempting to get the other hero to come on the journey that they ‘must’ go on.
“Mother Nature” will be one of ten songs featured on the band’s next album, including “Dancing in Babylon” ft. Christine and the Queens. Loss of Life will be released on February 23, 2024, through MGMT’s new label Mom + Pop.
