The 1975 are currently busy with their Still… At Their Very Best tour, but it will take a while before we see them live after this run of shows ends. Frontman Matty Healy revealed they’re planning to take an “indefinite hiatus” from touring during a recent concert.

Healy addressed the audience while performing at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California, and revealed they’re not going to do live shows for a while after concluding their current tour.

“We love coming to this place and playing for you guys whenever we have the chance, and it’s wonderful you’re all here. After this tour we will be going on an indefinite hiatus of shows so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight,” said Healy.

The British indie pop band kicked off Still… At Their Very Best tour earlier this month, in support of their album Being Funny in a Foreign Language from last year. Their touring schedule is pretty grueling, and they’re expected to do 33 shows across North America this fall, before heading to Europe for a run of 27 dates in February and March next year.

The 1975’s current tour marks the follow-up to their At Their Very Best tour, and it’s meant to chronicle their growth as a band over the course of the past decade.

Emo era is long behind us, but the influence of this genre is still alive and well. The 1975 is the latest band to embrace it according to their frontman Matty Healy, who revealed their next record will be “kind of emo”.

Healy first dropped hints about emo influence on their sound during Reddit AMA he did last month and discussed it again while speaking to US radio station ALT 949 at Coachella.

“I’m an active emo man, I suppose I’d call myself. I think that bands when they get to a stage that maybe we’re in they wanna kind of graduate into being like a massive rock band, whereas we wanna graduate like into being a small emo band if you know what I mean,” explained Healy.

The 1975’s frontman also discussed the band’s fourth studio album Notes on a Conditional Form, which is scheduled for release this year. The release date is still a mystery, and Healy said they don’t want to force anything.

“I haven’t figured it out, but I don’t think that we need to figure it out. And I don’t think our fans or people in this world need that kind of stuff figured out. We’ll just do it when it feels right. But there will be a build up to it like there always is,” concluded Healey.

Critics at the prestigious Billboard magazine recently made their picks for the best rock albums released in 2018, and the no. 1 spot didn’t really come as a surprise. The 1975 was one of the buzzed-about alternative bands of the year, and they topped this list with their third studio album.

A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships was released on November 30 to rave reviews and gave us several hit singles, including “Give Yourself a Try” and “Sincerity Is Scary.” It’s been barely a month since this album hit the shelves, but the band is already working on their follow-up.

Notes On A Conditional Form is scheduled for 31 May 2019 release and frontman Matty Healy said it contains some of the best lyrics he’s ever written. He admitted it’s a bit scary to release two albums back to back, but they’re doing it anyway!

“My only fear is that because I’ve put this umbrella over both albums, they’ll be perceived as intrinsically connected. But that was never my intention. I’m just making records. I’ve gotta always want to be making my masterpiece. Otherwise, what’s the point?” said Healy.

The 1975 might’ve dropped the most exciting rock album of the year, but it wasn’t the only one worth the listen. Mitski took the no. 2 spot with Be the Cowboy, while indie band Foxing finished third thanks to their latest album Nearer My God.
