Chenoweth described her new album as a “female empowerment record” because it features covers of songs from amazing female artists who influenced her over the years. Instead of recording it on her own, she made this album 100% better by joining forces with other fierce singers that she finds inspiring.

One of them just happened to be Ariana Grande, who’s been a fan of her performance in Wicked for a long time. They recorded a cover of Lesley Gore’s 1963 classic “You Don’t Own Me”, and really brought out the best in each other.

“I know she’s busy, and she’s the biggest star on the planet and I never expected her to say yes, but she did. I wanted to get in an old-school and new-school vibe with Ariana, and I think we achieved that – especially with additions like an old-school orchestra and an electric guitar,” Kristin Chenoweth told Billboard.
