Rumors about a collaborative album between J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar, which have been circling for a while, have been keeping hip-hop and rap fans at the edge of their seats. Unfortunately, it looks like the album won’t be out anytime soon, if ever.

J. Cole recently sat down with Power 105’s Angie Martinez for an extensive interview and talked about a variety of topics including the rumored collab album with Kendrick Lamar. While confirming that he and “HUMBLE.” rapper made a “few songs,” Cole explained that the album doesn’t exist and currently isn’t in the making.

“We just did a few songs,” Cole said. “Like, we did a bunch of ideas. Put it like that. It was nothing like, you wouldn’t call it an album.”

“It’s not like it’s something that’s actively happening,” he added. “Not because it’s never gonna happen. Just because, like… it’s not right now, and I don’t like teasing or playing the game ’cause this has been going on for a minute.”

Reports that J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar are working on a joint album first popped up in 2010, with Cole even confirming the project back in May 2012.

“I just started working with Kendrick the other day. We got it in, finally, again,” the “Power Trip” rapper told Bootleg Kev while explaining that “[It’s gonna be an] album.”

“We actually worked, bouncing ideas, which was great. The vibe was so good that it’s absolutely gonna happen. We got maybe four or five [songs] together,” he added.

J. Cole released his fifth studio album, KOD, on April 20th, 2018. The album peaked at number one on US Billboard 200, while also topping the charts in Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand and breaking several streaming records. KOD also received positive reviews from the critics, with some calling it Cole’s “best effort yet.”
